Can't wait for this mech. Basically the Clan Atlas :P. The Kodiak-2 is more or less the Bounty Hunter II xD. Both 69.7 kph, both 4 jumpjets, both 6-7 laser hardpoints, 1 ballistic hardpoint....though the Kodiak also has a missile hardpoint. And probably won't be nearly as manueverable. And does anybody know if it's going to have any quirks? I'm not expecting any. But some accel or decel quirks would be nice.

why is the title called "The Grizzly"? why not "The Kodiak" afterall the mech is named after the kodiakbear, not grizzlybear...doesn´t make sense...or has that sth to do with lore?

Both bears are Ursos arctos.

If anything, maybe minor twisty quirks so it's not utterly sluggish compared to comparable AS7's and such.

it would require negative quirks to be sluggish compared to an Atlas, unless you seriously downgrade the engine, I will keep the XL400 engines unless I seriously need the tonnage, in which case I may consider downgrading to a 375, but even then that will be faster and more responsive than any Atlas except the Boars Head is capable of being.

not so. A 350 rated Atlas (the only Atlas engine) with its twist and turn quirks will outtwist a 400 rated KDK without quirks.

I, too, thought this wouldn't be so at first blush, but I was proven wrong with Teh Maths (I think it was McGral?) Anyways, the quirks+350 out twist a stock 400 handily. Only the MASCy Spirit Bear can compete.

The AS7-S for example gets:

Acceleration35%
Deceleration35%
Turn Rate25%
Torso Angle Yaw+15°
Torso Yaw Speed40%

In agility quirks. 40% twist speed is tremendous, and way more than the minor increase in speed from 350 to 400 gets you. Even the 25% turn rate is major. Accel and decel too.

I don't have access to the base numbers ATM (I'm at work) but yeah, the Atlas is actually quite agile these days.

The XL400 engine will allow it to twist rather quickly. It may need some minor structure quirks depending on how its hitboxes work out. However massive engine, very high weapon mounts. I suspect it won't get any quirks. Hard to say though.

no, you'd think that, but no.

Twist speed is based on max speed, not rating. The 400 only offers a 100t mech a tiny bit more speed over the 350, so only a little bit more twist speed

Nothing compared to +40%

Both bears are Ursos arctos.

The general group,
a specific specie
the Kodiak specifically
The Ghost Bear which the Kodiak (mech) is based of.
c
Grizzly Bear: Ursus arctos
Mainland Grizzly Bear: Ursus arctos horribilis
Kodiak: Ursus arctos middendorffi
Ghost Bear: Ursus Lamina Strana Mechtis

as you may see, there is no reason to use 'grizzly' instead of kodiak. (I mean there is a mech called Grizzly... what will it's title be... The Kodiak?). BUT also the fact that the Ghost Bear is also a species which the mech itself is actually designed to appear like... you tell me which bear is better.

Of course nothing is comparable to 40% and to be honest I do not think there should be anything really over 30% or 40%.

The "grizzly" mech won't ever see the light of day in this game, so it won't matter. For starters its such a pile o' bear poop that its relegated to green provisional garrison clusters and secondly there's only one known variant.

in fairness, those claws are purely for show. despite what the intro to Ghost Bear's Legacy shows us, they're actually entirely useless for melee combat, and can easily snap.

Ok, for reference:
An AS7 with +40% torso yaw gets these twist rates:

300: 87 degrees/second
350: 101.5 degrees/second
400: 115 degrees/second

An unquirked 100t assault gets:
300: 63 degrees/second
350: 73.5 degrees/second
400: 84 degrees/second

So, a KDK with a 400XL, assuming no quirks, will twist slightly slower than an Atlas with a 300 rated engine.

Here's hoping for torso yaw quirks :)
