But by all means, lets develop "supply crates" for our thinking man's mech simulator.

Also, knockdowns.

What? You want lights to actually obey the laws of physics....

Should be so easy to implement at this point too. Use the same coding for slopes, but based on depth of water (% speed reduction increases with depth) and inverted for mech size (lights affected more than assaults due to more structure covered be water).

First pass. Done.

This reminds me...

Don't forget to convert your IS mechs from DHS to SHS and put them in the legs so you can cool your mech faster when in water.

Totally worth it! :D

Well, water physics isn't a squeaky wheel and it wouldn't generate PGI more money if implemented (or prevent them from making as much money).

Really, they just haven't had motivation to change it.

I'm still waiting for a map with a lake on it.. not just shallow water, but deep enough to submerge an Atlas. At the same time it should slow a mech, Big mech like an Atlas going too deep would be eventually unable to move out. LRM's and SRM's would be useless in the water AC's and Lasers Would be at extremely reduced ranges, but it would add a fun new element to gameplay, "To chase the mech into the lake or not?", that would be the question.

OP, while I agree that knockdowns are something that should be added (especially with the ridiculous number of gimmick light mechs), you can't blame PGI that is a business with employees to pay for adding continuous money streams. PGI isn't a charity...

Yeah, and we can take a corner at 150kph and NOT go skidding out of control and slam into the building for a nice hefty chunk of health.

Thinking mans shooter, thats a funny one. Its huddle around a corner, wait for someone to poke, press 1, profit.

Whoa whoa whoa, I've spent my fair share on MWO, but surely one of the Top 25 Greatest Shooters of All Time is in a healthy enough financial position and can bring some of the absolute most basic things to priority level.

People already avoid water because it is usually open ground. Adding further penalty to it would make it the equivolent of lava on terra therma.

Now, if they were to change it so water just flat out made heat dissipation better regardless of heat sink type/location, then I would be all about adding movement penalty, because then there would be a trade off- reduced move for better heat.

I wouldn;t rule out PGI adding this, I mean knocking trees over is a sort of recent thing and that didn;t add any money to their pocket besides player retaining cool factor. Sometimes you just got to put cool **** in because of cool factor, and the affect it has on the gameplay.

But if you are going to start championing this, please put forward a complete package and include some heat or other type of benefit, not just a movement penalty. This should get put into the game for immersion, but you need to balance the good and bad or it will just make water a no man's land.

It needs to happen.

Also...the cooling factor needs to be re-evaluated as well; to include any type of heat sink in any part of the mech. STD heat sinks in the legs should only give a bonus cooling factor.

The amount that water slows the mech down should be based on tonnage; 20-tonners slowed down the most and 100-tonners slowed down the least.

You would have to buff waters cooling effects if you did this. Otherwise everyone would avoid water at all costs because slowing down would suck.

Also needs to factor in the aerodynamics. A Crab for example can move forward faster than a Trebbie in water, due to their shape difference. Posted Image

Dude...That's not even unrealistic, at all...each mech can be quirked for water speed based on their form factor.

I don't know if I could survive threads in this forum devoted to water being OP at slowing down mechs and hampering their mobility.

At face value, it's kind'a mind-numbing that this isn't a "thing"... Particularly when PGI was so adamant to implement pitch movement penalties (hill climb) when a speed movement penalty for traversing water is as important from a strategic standpoint.
