not as nice as yours (Polar and a "kill securing" KGC wingman didn't help, lol) but not unhappy for a first drop in a class of mechs I usually avoid like the plague......

Generally I agree. I only take out my assaults in group queue with my unit mates. God help Assaults in Pug Queue.

Which engine? I'm thinking of downgrading for some extra room. If it handles well with, say a 375 that would be fantastic.

Wow you can change out clan engines?
It has an XL 400 but the cost of clan stuff is super high also you will lose one heat sink slot if you go down to a C-XL 375

The Mech does run hot so my XL400 will stay for now

The only Mechs that can't swap engines are omnimechs.

Battlemechs, whether Clan or Inner Sphere, can swap engines/armor/internal structure if they want.

Downgrading to an XL375 saves you 7 tons, so unless you're maxed on crit slots you can easily add back in the 1 DHS that you lose from the engine. In fact the downgrade saves you so much weight that it's actually worth it to downgrade AND drop Ferro Fibrous - you can get a net increase of 3 DHS by doing that.

Not overly impressed so far but then again, I am only a handfull games in. Its squishy and probably should get some more structure buffs. Not Atlas - like but prolly needs some love - at least I think so.

Play it like a more mobile Dire Wolf. Be the damage dealer, not the damage taker. You contribute by blasting apart every single SoB that gets into your crosshairs. Once elited, it should perform noticeably better.

Can always sell one of the XL 400's to help fund towards the XL375 too.

Kodiak's engine is a Clan XL engine (so no explosion if you lose ST) even if it's swappable?

Yes, you can swap it with other Clan XLs or Std engines. The beauty of a battlemech. I would not recommend lowering the engine rating below 350 though. 325 at the least, especially in a pug match.

Yeah, I'm realyl thinking about grabbing the SB. The amount of pain the things can lay out is impressive, especially if you run around like a really oversized MediuM Mech. I'm thinking that MAC would have to be huge.

That puts it around the 56KPH mark right?

Edit: at the 350XL that is.

Being able to Blitzkrieg in at the right moment in a fight with a Medium's speed and an Assaults firepower could be amazing.

Yep. 56.7 without speed tweak.

(You lose 4.05 kph from 64.8 for every 25 engine size you drop from the XL400.)

350XL will put you at 56.7 kph when not elited, and 61 kph when elited. You get 15% faster speed than the Dire Wol for only 6.5 more tons, which is compensated by being able to equip Endo Steel.

The beauty of the KDKs with the accel/deccel quirks would basically be forfeit if you don't use a screamer of an engine in it.

My team of 10, with all the tonnage restrictions that entails, just faced NINE Kodiaks in the Group Queue.

They had essentially double our tonnage.

I realise PGI's POS matchmaker needs to deal with lots of Kodiaks today. But you'd think they could at least make it smart enough to put the Kodiaks up against each other rather than stupid matches like that.

(In case you're wondering, we lost the match 11-12 when our last Locust unfortunately couldn't take down both the undamaged Kodiaks that had been sniping from the back throughout the battle.)

I agree that the sneak peek was extremely unimpressive. The thing is made of glass, with a center torso as big as the side of a barn.

People today are going to try and play it as a clan Atlas,(Which in my opinion it should have been) and they are going to die. There will be a sizable portion of the people who pre-ordered it, spitting at the forums after the patch.

but quirks lol

Dual Gauss on KDK-3, 4x Medium Pulses on paws, seems to work decently. Could fit Quad-Gauss if I switched to smaller STD Engine... With those gun placements I might have to give it a swirl at some point.

Overall I like the bear, relatively fast and agile for a 100-tonner. Will take a while for it to find its place due to being a tad on the soft side.

Kicking butt w/ the SB so far. 4 wins, 1 loss, 10 kills, 3 deaths. It has a squishy CT and the cockpit has terrible visibility but the sheer firepower and maneuverability help make up for the shortcomings.

I'm considering dropping the 400XL down to a 375 but even with a 400XL I am pretty much maxed out on weapons, DHS and crits.

Anymore lasers on the KDK-1 will put me into the ghost heat range or just run so very hot that I can't fire more than a couple times

KDK-1 400XL

KDK-1 375XL

19 DHS vs 23 DHS

The difference in speed is negligible
The difference in firepower is also negligible

The thing about having 2 SRM6s is I'll have one more weapon to fire when my lasers and UAC are on cooldown or jammed.

I'm going to probably stick to the 400XL even though I have quite a few million cBills to spare
