So, maybe this is old and known, maybe not... I was screwing around in the Academy today for no good reason, and I noticed if you launch a UAV, all the 'trial' mechs have Piranha staff attached to them:

You can take your own mechs in the training grounds so you are using your own UAV. Notice in the screen shots they are from a Kodiak.
