You have 3 free crit, and LPLs doesn't sync at all with the rest of the build. Min-maxing is half the fun of playing MWO!

You also need 5 tons (21*ˇ24=504) of SRM ammo to match the number of volleys you can fire off with your AC.

I never feel compelled to use every free crit.

The LPL aren't intended to fully sync with anything else - they're your long-range firepower. Once you get in close, use the UAC/20 and ASRM-24. You'd only use the LPL in close if you had the heat to spare, and if you have the heat to spare at that point you're doing something wrong anyway. ;)

I find the CUAC/20 to be effective at longer range than the ASRM-6, so I need more UAC ammo than SRM ammo.

If you're not going to use the XL400 for its 6 internal heat sink slots, then you might as well downgrade all the way to an XL375. That's still 60 kph, but saves 7 tons over the XL400. Which allows you to upgrade to LPL for mo' betta long range.

As Gyrok noted, the up-close punch comes from the ASRM-24, so you can skip firing the LPL which makes the heat efficiency more-or-less a moot point.

I advise against shaving the cockpit armor, the cockpit is very large, distinctly shaped and easily located.

It is almost the entire mouth portion of the mech's head.

Yes, while I have not been killed through cockpit, I have had the head armor stripped a few times. I would advise against stripping cockpit armor.

Hmm... good to know.

I finally got to play my new Kodiaks (well, just the KDK-3) last night and it went about as I expected. It has a lot of firepower, but dies just as easily as any other un-quirked Assault. Yes, I said un-quirked. 10 pts of structure is meaningless when you're being focused by 3-5 other Assaults, and with quad CUAC/10 you're pretty committed to face time so the agility quirks aren't that useful.

The KDK-3 is not OP. It's good, but if my initial experiences with it are any indication the rest are going to be average to sub-par. The Spirit Bear might still be above average. Basically, I have better results in my Black Widow than I do in the KDK-3.

I'm averaging a little over 450 damage. I average a little over 550 in my Black Widow. /shrug
