I hear you, but I kind of feel like a game is poorly designed if it requires the players to make this kind of decision. You have to understand the tragedy of the commons and apply it to every situation, or at least make it fairly easy for players to realize their mistake.
"Ok, I've waited for 2 hours trying to get a match with my heavy mech in Quick Play. Now I'll just switch to a medium mech and I'll get a match instantly."

That's a lot better than "Ok, I've waited 2 hours trying to get a match in Faction Play. Now my whole unit has to switch allegiance and break our contract and we can't get a match for x number of days."

god forbid you will have to drop in a team not consisting out of 12 good expirienced unit players. they did not join mercstarr to not be able to stomp every not elite 12 man...

its ok to drop in 12 mans of your team but if the best clans all join 1 faction so they can suplement eatch other to always field strong 12 mans.

they deliberatly screw over fw ballance to get more wins. its karma that they cant get games due to there own doing.

to bad JF loialists get to pay the price too..

ps in the vid they are joking about 50 min of cue for a 10 min mach, but they dont understand when the guys geting stomped over and over again in 10 min dont want to play...

This is the point. The whole "We have to teach the players a lesson"-argument doesn't really fly when you're making a game for people's entertainment. Gamers are going to game, and you have to make a game that works despite people trying to be selfish. If there's one thing you can count on in every game, it's players being selfish. Doesn't matter if it's MWO, WOW, DOTA, EVE Online or whatever else.

Problem is not the people are selfish. It's they are stupid at being selfish (trying to game the game to get among the best and end up with nobody wanting to fight you exactly because you gamed to be among the best.) Only hard locks prevent stupidity, but these are bad for other reasons.

Food for thought - what would happen if we allowed loyalist to vote on breaking a contract with a merc unit that does more harm than good for the faction.

if ppl selfish behavior ruins the game... trade guilds in MMO's, they work gr8 for the members, they ruin the game ==> they got banned and so dit the players who did not head the warning, if units like ms brake the game for all the loialists of JF, then they should get a warning, if they keep doing it they should be disbanded, if they keep trying to find ways around then maybe a few should be banned for a time, if that not works pgi will just have to get merc units out of the game entirely...

if they get that in there head i hope they act accordingly...

realy fw would be so much better if the big units made shure they where spread out over the factions.

lol no loyalist would want a big merc unit, they take all the tags, they drop in there own 12 mans (so you wont benefit from there skill ore expirience) they chase a way the ennemy, the only thing they help with is making the map look a bit nicer for your faction XD

The 1 planet thing is lolz.

Wolf are the same. only have 1 attack and no defenses. The loyalist IS players are just attacking each other.

Yep... PGI should reduce the max sice of Units to 50? Problem solved! The split units will go on playing together on the same factions, but sooner or later they gonna split. If a unit with 350 members and their subunit with x members cry for too less enemies, they should maybe think about their sice, not about the game.

But iam sure if PGI would reduce the unitsice, the endless rages will go on..... but only for some time.
