Question
In game sometimes I see a letter after an opponent’s name
Anyone know what the letter means?

Don't recall seeing it before. Perhaps their targeting designation.

The target designation they had. I think it's been there for a while.

I agree it is the mech/target designation that person received, but are you sure it's been there for a while? I've not seen that before in the kill-feed.

The target designation. If you press Q, all enemies will get a letter designation that correlates with the order in which they were targeted by your team.

The first enemy mech targeted will always be A, the 2nd will be B, etc.

This is primarily used for callouts, as it is slightly more direct and universal to say "Focus fire A" as opposed to "Focus fire that [Mech name]"



In FW, the letters will repeat to double letters after 26.

Could have been there for a year. I don't pay much attention to the kill feed. Just hit tab occasionally to see how things are going.

Looking back at old highlights from my livestream, looks like it came in during October of 2014, so it's been around for about a year and a half.

Oldest screenshot I found that had the letter designation was labeled 2014-9-26. So definitely has been there quite a while.
