it has higher mounts is 10kph faster 1more dhs (at the cost of clan xl (vs std) and no shield torso (but its case anny way so not such a big deal i think?))

It was probably his original or theorycraft list, because we use the KDK-3 build more than the 4 because the shield side isn't as practical.

Metamechs is a good guide, but not the final word. Gman does a good job optimizing most of his builds. I have seen a lot or player's builds that miss subtle but valuable points that Gman rarely misses. That being said he does seem to preference xl engines and gauss rifles perhaps a bit too much.

But the subject here is the Kodiak 3 and the Kodiak 3 is the best mech in the game with two excellent options for builds (dakka and dual gauss/ppc). Most experienced players can average a couple of kills and 500 damage per quick play match with either of these builds. And unlike many mechs, it is very rare to get killed early in one of these without getting in some significant damage and a good score. This is a great mech for grinding C-bills or moving up a tier for those who are interested in such. You won't have many bad matches, your average match will be good, and you can have some great matches with over 1k damage and multiple kills as well.

Map size, environmental heat, and engagement ranges don't factor into the equation with these mechs as much as others. The Kodiak 3 is just "good overall". I find the dakka version a bit more flexible. One on one, you can blind and shake an opponent with constant fire so that he will have a hard time focusing damage on your CT. (I have been on both sides of this situation). If you make a mistake you can still go down in a blaze of glory and deal some serious damage on the enemy before expiring.

Hey the original topic was if the KDK 3 really belonged at the very top of the list of all MWO mechs. In my experience it does belong there, and so far, no one has offered another mech up as better overall, and I mean overall (hot or cold map, any range, any situation).

It isnt just the best, its FAR AND AWAY the best. Look at Tarogatos stat crunchings. The bad mechs, lots of mechs in the middle , and something waaaaayy up off the scale with nothing even close.

Hah, I love how sure people are of completely opposite things. Kodiak is OP and anyone who thinks otherwise is dumb. Kodiak is terrible and anyone who disagrees is dumb.

Metamechs is a very useful site, and the builds are really nice starting points. The thing is, there's whole paragraphs written as for why each build was built as it was. This makes it 500x better than all the dumb builds posted on the forum with no reasoning whatsoever.

This here, this here is why Metamech is a good resource. Where else can you get a comprehensive breakdown of each mech and the various ways to build it. Sure there might be better builds (for you) out there. But unless you know or think you know everything, it is always good to be reminded or to learn about why things are done.

So I cannot really understand the pure hate/dislike people have for GMan. If they dislike him so much, why don't they provide an alternative guide as comprehensive as his and let others scrutinize it.
