And yet it is virtually in every single vote.

Canyon Network for instance is 10000000000 times more popular but is rarely in the voting option.

Is this intentional?

I see Forest Colony every single time. Litereally every single time.

I rarely see Canyon Network which everybody loves.

Since nobody ever wants to play the new (******) Forest Colony, why is it always there if nobody wants it? That just doesnt make any sense.

And why is Canyon Network - one of the best maps - so rarely a voting option????

Forest Colony is a weird map...
I have asked peeps why they vote for it but i just get the punk "just to piss you off" response.
I never vote for it.
It seems to make players just stand around looking at each other,

After thinking about it... River City seems to have the same effect.

Every single engagement on Forest Colony is the same and happens in the very same spot. Even Mordor has more variety than Forest Colony. I reckon it's the only map that got objectively worse after being remade. But PGI wants to keep maps as varied as possible and that's what you get.

I vote for it because I want to play on all the maps. As for the op, the voting choices are, thankfully, biased so that the most popular maps are not the only maps people are forced to play.

It's because you cant see anything on that map 75% of the time....

Its also a bad map design, it real open but its not because tree branches block everything from mechs, to your view, and then there is the fog and time of day BS.

Its just a lame duck map, there is nothing special or cool about it. It just an open area with some trees. Maps like HPG which have some cool features, the wall, center, dish etc. are played because they are kinda unique and different from just running around in someone backyard.

Forest is just a bunch of trees in the woods, nothing cool or special about it so why play it? to be bored?

We don't know how PGI weights their maps.

Why doesn't anyone want to play Forest Colony?

Because it's badly designed.

They made the map larger, but made most of that portion of the map either outright inaccessible or so hard to access that no one bothers with it.

The fights basically end up exactly where they used to end up on the old Forest Colony.

And lastly, visibility is just a complete mess - trees & foliage everywhere, you can't even see through them with heat vision and then you have the day night cycle with dawn/dusk creating even worse visibility - but wait that's not enough, there are also periods of dense fog!

This is easily one of the maps I dislike the most, no one I know or plays with - or have played with - likes this map at all, for the reasons I've stated above.

I like the new forest colony, except it definitely needs to have that huge impassable mountain flattened out, turned into alternative avenues of engagement. That is the biggest problem with the map, it funnels you to only really one choice of place to fight.

Yes this is true, in fact the old forest colony had 3 areas for engagement: tunnel, hills and water.

The new one just pushes everybody to the same place, a good 1/2 the map is completely unsuited for combat that allows for both sides to have good positioning. I think they could have just made a rolling terrain with more large trees and done just as good.

I see Terra Therma even more than Forest Colony (prolly cuz i throw 11x votes at it).

However, I also noticed that it is prolly one of the rarest maps to occur in the voting section too.

Such an awesome map, beautiful terrain, and dynamic time of day forces you to make use of thermal and nigh visions.
It also has a ton of cover and room for strategic movement for pugs that use voice comms.

* Nobody wants to play it
* Everyone votes for it

It's not as unlikely as you don't think it couldn't not be?

Back when the map was new and none of us knew how to "best" play it, it could be fairly fun. In my experience it was mostly when the fight happened in the E8-G8-H8 area in a north to south way. There are large trees there that can serve as cover but leave you exposed to flanking ( unless you have teamates that know how to support you ) A nice risk/reward scenario.

Sadly, with time and further exposure, the path of least resistance ( I don't mean this pejoratively, it's just human nature ) commanded that the fights take place closer to the water's edge is a West/East mannner. That's what lead to the stale gameplay we have now in my opinion.

Visibility is fine on Forest colony, it was never supposed to be a sniper map. You're just supposed to "happen" upon the enemy in the woods. Now if the map's design was better this could be fun but as it stands, we always know exactly where the enemy will be so not seeing them is just annoying for some people which I can understand but not particularily sympathize with.

Generally I play Canyon and Bog too much. Bog has too much bumpy stuff you get stuck on which interferes with piloting because you just can't see that well from a mech and the blocking objects are hard to discern. My favorite map is actually River City, it suits any mech based on how you pilot them. You can pull over-gunned assaults into chasing you through buildings and then pop out behind them or an assault can control the firing alleys.

The original Forest Colony would be a hit though. The original version from the Closed Beta has the most realistic distances and the mechs seem true to scale. Take a look.

The distance haze is so perfect is why the mechs look 10 to 20 meters tall. It even makes the tiny trees look full size. Bring the alpha/closed beta version of Forest Colony back to the rotation. I bet players cast a lot of votes for it. They should employ this type of graduated distance haze on more maps because it extends the sense of map depth, although I don't think it would work for every map. Mechs would be clearly visible, but details would be diffuse at long range. Most all of MWO maps have no distance haze at all right now. Too bad because it really reinforces the scale of the mechs.

Would be great for the 4v4 CW gamemode.

EDIT:
Gorram it, the game looked so damn good in CB. I miss CB.

Remove or reduce greatly the fog please. I don't mind the trees and foliage but I hate seeing the washed out color on my screen due to the fog. Frozen City is even worse when the snowstorm comes that you need to use the heat vision which makes everything black and white....

I miss the slow, lumbering walk that mechs had during the early CB days. Can't remember if it was the missile flight paths which went first, or the mechs doing the quick step happened first. Either way they've sure managed to ruin the visuals and immersion.

I wish we could just be done with voting entirely, or the very least the map should be random instead of voted on. I'm tired of seeing the same damn maps over and over again.

i understand that forest colony was reworked because it was one of the original maps intended for 8v8 play, but i feel that there were better ways to adjust it to 12v12 play. forest colony now is huge with only a small portion of the map played WITH TREES EVERYWHERE TO BLOCK YOUR VIEW, SRM, AND AC SHOTS.

old forest was great, i dont understand why they cant just release the maps back out; it only adds more content to the game.
