I understand the need for some big maps.... but are they really trying to redo all the old ones into giant maps? Forest colony and river city go on for sooooooooooooooooooooooo long. It gets boring fast.

This is what I like, just good old fashioned fun.

The only good part about this thread is the Monty Python clip :D

Big maps are fine and what the players wanted (just see years worth of threads demanding bigger maps).

If a few people really want to play smaller maps (or the older maps that were replaced), PGI should allow the old maps to be select-able for play in a Private Lobby.

I like the maps getting bigger, but I would have loved for them to keep the old ones in rotation as well. Polar was a great addition, added a whole new way of playing in the game, was and still is fun.

Yeah, I understand the players wanted bigger maps, but surely you didn't mean that every map would be big right?

Well at least I got you to smile... thats worth it!

The complaint from many players in the past was that the map size at the time made MWO feel too much like an arena shooter. They wanted more expanse maps like MW4 and that MW:LL Crysis mod. They wanted more of a battlefield feel and less of a small Solaris play field out doors.

Yeah, I get the feeling people wanted all maps to feel like a sprawling battlefield.

I don't mind the big battlefields like Polar Highlands myself. Luckily every team seems to drop with one or more light mechs willing to scout so finding the enemy and converging doesn't take too long.

Overall, large maps FTW! IMO.

PGI should keep all the smaller versions and use them for 4v4 and 8v8 type modes.

Silly to ditch all the work that went into them even if they were never good for 12v12.

Maps need to be both bigger and more complex with more varied terrain. Maps should be a mix of open terrain and closed terrain. There should be numerous objectives spread out across the battlefield that force you to navigate to different locations rather than walking the shortest path to the most convenient hill to hump.

Give me a reason why the maps need to be bigger. Because basically everyone, from the pug lords to the meta-tards to the try-hards, all want one thing: The fastest (not moste enjoyable, not most interesting, not even the safest, just the fastest) possible way to engage the enemy and end/win the match. Until there is a reason to use the rest of the map it doesn't matter that the new Forest Colony map is complex and diverse because ever match everyone will just walk in a straight line to the same coordinates and hill hump/corner peek until someone encourages a push.

Big for bigness sake isn't what we need. We need a reason for the bigness.

But if the helmet had no horns, would it be very Monty Python like? :D

We are talking about a comedy troop that put a WWI style leather flight helmet on a Cardinal lol. I bet no one expected that!....*turns and looks
towards the door*

Most people want small maps. That's why the most popular maps are the small ones. Unless the map selection only allows you to pick from big maps.

I don't like walking 4 mins to play a 900m poke fest, then wait another 4 mins before it gets to midrange.

I want to get to the action faster. I don't like World Of Walking. MechWalker online.

They need a couple more maps like Polar Highlands. When the likelihood of wide open expanses increases in map selection, the diversity of load outs will become more likely, as players must adapt to fight at different ranges. The expectation cannot always be a brawling map, because that plays into established meta load outs.

If we could spend one downvote every year, I would use mine on this thread.

I could not disagree more. The fighting usually starts inside 1 minute on most maps. I have no sympathy for anyone who gets bored in that time. Maybe Unreal Tournament would be a better game to play?

Frozen City / Canyons / Mining Collective are the smaller maps. People vote for these maps way more often. Nuff said.
