ATM, I don't think MWO is dying. This game has such a dedicated community and fanbase (Which PGI should appreciate and doesn't) that I could never see this game completely dying.

to be honest, i think it is. slowly.

lots of bitter vets and posts on the forums, and self-selection bias not withstanding, that's generally not a good thing.

also, while steam stats don't represent all the player base, they do hint at something. i saw the same thing on diablo 3 forums in the past, where people argued that the sharp decline in xfire game stats meant nothing because most of the player base didn't use xfire.

turns out the nay-sayers were right. diablo 3 lost like 80% of their player base within 12 months.

while i like mwo, i don't think its fair to put our hands over our ears and pretend we can't hear the bell tolling.

if anything, if steam stats go down, i think it's fair to assume that active player stats ARE going down across the board. that's why we have all these week-long, every week events - to hopefully increase the number of active players.

russ's comment that player numbers are larger now than ever before means absolutely nothing.

because when players stop playing, their accounts still remain in the database. by virtue of that, you couldn't make TOTAL player numbers go down even if chuck norris gave you a hand. that's how the statistic works.

Is the opposite for me. I cannot take War Thunder/Fractured Space/WoT/etc and keep on coming back to MWO.

In some cases a predictable commodity is a better money maker than trying to make a something better.

I am not trying to let PGI of the hook, but if they have limited resources it may be a better move for them to stay on the over used "life support" than to try and please the internet.

Most of the issues with this game come from BT expectations versus modern online PVP expectations and PGis lack of ability to put them in their places (knowing it may be a death blow).
