Im kinda tired of dying becase of that big racing spoiler thing on top of the jager.
Im sure other mechs have this problem too.

Generally, they're mostly the frontal hitbox, sometimes the rear counts as rear (but not always)
Things like the ST missile or laser pods, or the above Antenna.

I meant, "why is it set up like that".
I dont quite understand why shooting an antenna would cause damage to the main torsos...... yet... its a feature.

Homage to the original TRO artwork etc...
Reality is a lot of Mech protuberances are superfluous at best... And as you've noticed with the Jager, detrimental to the overall hitbox profile.
My beloved Rifleman suffers the same fate. That said, I'm a sucker for aesthetics so I resentfully deal with it.

Short answer... standardization of the hitboxes to 11 across all mechs. It too is homage to the original table-top pen/paper rules.

Because PGI only recently figured out how to give mechs desctructible geometry that doesn't give damage to the actual components (Archer missile doors, Phoenix Hawk jump jets)

I'm personally tired of getting my Battlemaster's rear CT shot up from multiple angles due to that backpack.

In the two and a half months the Archer has been out, I don't think I've seen one yet have its doors shot off. So while they say the doors are independently destructible without damaging the torsos, I'm not sure that I believe it yet.
