this is prolly asked alot although im having problems choosing so id like to get the community's option in this.

im currently looking for somthing that feels and is visually fun to use.
im currently using the King-Crab and i love it, being able to decimate other players with Dual AC/20s right into the face is an awesome feeling.

With the sale on now, i've had my Eyes on the Atlas for some time now, this Robot looks Really Savage-like, and id imagin it would be somthing Similer to the disctuctive power of the King crab.

Ive also had my Eyes on the Kodiaks although these Guys are Clan mechs and i wont be able to use them in those community Wars so theres that.

what do you guys think i should purchase

20 bucks would get you three standard Kodiaks.
30 for sales would get me two heavy heroes, a locust hero and some left over (substitute locust hero for oxide, ember, etc as applicable). Or two assault heroes with a little left over.

Don't buy champions, my personal opinion but I do not believe them to be worthwhile if on a budget. Leave them for the whales. (I say this as someone who has spent over a thousand and been gifted a little over 300).

King Crabs deliver damage very quickly. Atlases aren't as great in damage delivery when unfairly compared to the king Crabs but tank significantly better than a crab could ever hope to. I personally love the Boat's Head. Double large pulse lasers in each arm plus some backup weapons and each arm is slightly better than an AC/20 for damage with a faster firing rate (and that's before quirks).

while i agree with Koniving some what that you don't really get much from a champion, they are a great way to take short cuts. I know when i started my clan account last december i bought a timber C, and don't regret it at all. the XP booster is a great way to gain GXP faster to help with the tons of module unlocks, especially if it is a mech you will be using a ton as in the case of my timber C, it is my goto energy boat timber.

They are also really nice especially when on sale for 50% off as often they come with great engines, and full upgrades, so what can cost you 5-8m in just upgrades and engines alone, you can often get them from anywhere between a couple bucks and maybe 10? The light and mediums tend to be the best deals, as they don't cost much, but when you are saving another 3m plus in upgrades, and then maybe 5m for an engine, that can mean many hours of grinding.

as for this sale, if i had 30 bucks, if you enjoy playing mediums or heavies, might i suggest looking into a champion or hero of those classes, for 30 bucks you could pick up a bunch of mechs.

Atlas's are great, but i never played the boars head, but one day i do plan on getting it, but right now it's low on my priority list.. But if you are loving atlas's 50% is the time to grab the hero for sure.

I second Koniving's suggestion of the Kodiak if you are after an Assault, the Kodiak is basically the Clan version of the Atlas, but with the Atlas you have a significant trade-off in ether payload space or durability if you want speed, whereas the Kodiak can take a Clan XL engine and achieve much higher speed with the same firepower to and not much less durability than the Atlas.

if you want good Mechs with minimal cbill outlay for upgrades the Champions can be a good choice, especially the Light champions because they usually come with the optimal XL engine for the Chassis allowing you to save a lot of cbills on outfitting later variants.

if you like the destructive power of the KCG not many Mechs come close and only 1 exceeds it, the Dire Wolf, but the Dire has a fixed 300 engine so is not as agile as most King Crabs in which people usual seem to upgrade the engine, upgrading a 300 to 325 or 350 may not sound like much but it gives a significant improvement to the Mechs handling.

unfortunately I am not the best person to give you advice on the slow but heavily armed Mechs as my preferences are for fast and agile rather than slow and heavily armed.

I believe the Mauler would be the IS Assualt you'd want on par with the King Crab. Don't get me wrong, the atlas is fun and tanky, but the best you'll do for ballistics is dual uac5s. The mauler though? Ballistics beast. I try to focus em in CW because I know how much of a threat they are.

The Atlas is still the undisputed brawling king.
Unfortunately there is not a lot of variety behind builds that "work" with the Atlas. If you like to play up close and personal with the KGC then you may like the Atlas.

Personally Im not a fan of the Atlas hero. Laser vomit does not lend itself to brawling as well as SRMs and an Ac20.

Kodiak is a lot of fun. Best clan assault by far. Fair bit of variety in the builds.

Kodiak. You wont use lots of 100t mechs in CW anyway.

These sale prices on Heros and Champions are hard not to look at.

And for you stinking IS pilots...(hehe) there are both Champion and Heros to be had with the same mech. I keep looking at the Pirate's Bane for 750 MC (I've fought against so many of these) and the Champion for 380 MC. There are a number of these Combos and one way to look at it is you will have 2 out of the 3 you need and the two you have are special. I think I might have to get them just for fun and to make extra cash. Nothing I have is that fast.

I wish there were some Heros in the Resistance packs. And I wish there was a Champion Hellbringer.

And I REALLY wish I had listened to all of you when you said, WAIT, these often go on sale, lol.

Between the Atlas and the Kodiak, I'd take the Kodiak. You'll pay $20 for 300 tons of metal, and some Kodiaks are performing insanely well right now. The Atlas, on the other hand, is more difficult to pilot and less flexible in its weapon loadouts - while the Kodiak (not being an omni) has an equal amount of customization and lighter/smaller components (it does pay for it in laser burn times and burst-fire ballistics.)

If you can scrape together 5 more bucks, you can even get the Spirit Bear for $15 - a steal for a 100-ton Battlemech, especially considering that the Boar's Head is more expensive than that even with the 50% off sale.

@Koving: You don't have to use MC. The sale price Oxide and mechbay come to about $8 worth of MC vs. $11 from gift store.

That would put you $1 over budget if combining the Oxide from the gift store with Marauder/Warhammer standard package at $31.

The Jagermech bundle retails for $28. I don't know how flexible the OP is term of MC purchasing.

If you like playing the King Crab with Dual AC20s then you might like an Atlas, though probably not the hero atlas.

The Boar's Head uses mostly lasers in the arms mixed with a large AC and has only 1 missile slot, overall its not nearly the best variant.

The Atlas-S however is nice with an AC20 and 4 SRM6+Artemis. It works at the ranges of your King Crab but with even more damage and its even more durable.

Also the Kodiaks, after using them extensively act more like Maulers than Atlases, even the non ballistic heavy variants. They are mostly good at firesupport, they can brawl but are squishy up close due to their hitboxes and lack the level of structure quirks an Atlas comes with. They do put out lots of damage however, especially the KDK-3.

I'd recommend the Kodiaks, but if you do want a Hero mech I'd recommend the Black Widow out of the ones I've seen due to its ability to hold 2 UAC5 and 2 AC5 at the same time being sort of a mini Mauler at 70 tons.
