.Using light mechs only from the original TRO, what would your ideal recon lance look like?

**I know this is dumb, :P I used to do this bench racing crud constantly as a nerdy, shut-in little only child. My room was piled with legos, bits of unfinished model kits and minis, and scraps of notebook paper with mech builds, merc organization and the like... I doubt anyone else was ever that bad, but there we have it.

I'd say:
Panther - Lance leader. This crowd intends to run away from anything bigger than themselves, but this guy (or gal) can coordinate and provide a much needed 'big stick' if any of her own get in a pickle.

2 Jenners - Meat & Potatos. Not my favorite light chassis, but I can never claim that the thing isn't balanced well. These two, aside from being competant scouts in their own right, would serve as flanking elements if the Panther ever had to do duty as a "Scout Hunter". Plus I would also use them as my frontliners should the lance come into an unfortunate slugging match.

Ostscout - the "Scouts scout". In a pre-raven age, I'd hope (or at least like to imagine), that the OTT-7J would get some hefty EW bonuses. Once the lance makes contact, this is the guy slinking forward to see how much toilet paper the other side has left (then we know how long till they withdraw), otherwise he's to stay out of sight.

...btw, was anyone else stymied in their early years with a mis-printed TRO? The Ostscout is printed with the specs for the Ostroc... I inintally was baffled at how they got two large and four med lasers on a light chassis.

Thoughts anyone?

*edit: My one modification, although not intended for combat, if it was highly possible, I might substitute a Valkyrie for one Jenner, to give the benefit of the LRMs.

Hmmmm. depends on affiliation. just off the top of my head I would say,

fedcom
2x Javelin - a pair of SRM 6's make it nasty up close
Commando - solid close in design as well
Assassin - for a bit of fast fire support

kurita
2x jenner - solid design
panther - solid punch
Spider - for some extra speed

I think for recon lances i would stick with speed ranges... any mech that walks over 50kph i would want in my recon lance. This includes both light and medium mechs.

Phoenix Hawk (not technically a light but at 6/9/6 it's a good fit), a Jenner, a Locust-E and a Locust-S.

Re-reading the Warrior novel series - the Kuritans would drop entire companies of Panthers.

DC makes the panther's and Jenner's two of the nastiest light mechs out there, tho the varient of the javlin does come close to the jenner in firepower

The DC did use companies of Panther, but they aren't the best light mechs around especially for recon duty. Since speed and survivability is key in recon, i personally would use 2 Jenners and 2 Mongoose. The Jenners are fast and jump capable and the Mongoose is fast and has good armor.

For me;
Wolfhound WLF-1
Commando 2D
Commando 2D
Wasp 1A

Similar movement speeds +3 Jumpers and a hard hitting large laser.
In a cityscape, Wolfhound bait while the rest lie in wait for ambushes.

If no Wolfhound then substitute a Firestarter

It HAS to be 4 Atlas mechs as the scout lance. For the Assault lance we'll use 4 Wasps.

well I typically did not use all lights in my "recon lances"

typical recon lance for me was:
phoenix hawk, or shadow hawk, (but staying with lights.. firestarter, valkerie, or wolfhound
the other 3 slots would be available mechs from the following list
stinger, wasp, locust, commando, javelin, jenner, valkerie, or spider

panthers IMO are too slow to make good scouts however they do make good scout killers
