You wanna go brawler with the Orion 2C, it is justified in is own rights. Why not adopt a more do it all role so from afar or close you can alpha the opponent without overheating which mean that you can alpha more often. Dont forget that clan LRMs can fire point blank.

here is the suggestion

I love my Orion IIC's. I'm fully aware of the realities of the mech, but still I really enjoy playing them (ignore F/B armor allocation):

ON1-IIC - UAC20, 2LPL, 3xSRM4, XL325 and 17 DHS. Alternatively, drop the SRM's entirely for an XL350 and 19DHS with something like ON1-IIC. Sword and board, baby.

ON1-IIC-C - 2xUAC10, 3xLRM10. Puts out a tremendous amount of very sustainable DPS - a very strong mid to mid-close range brawler. Basically, from 540 to 150m it's pushing upwards of 23 DPS, while being able to maintain damage output as even without direct LOS (firing over friendlies). Once things get close, you spend the LRM side to protect the dual UAC10's, allowing a surprising amount of tankiness.

ON1-IIC-A - No ballistics; just 4xASRM6 and 2 Large Pulse Lasers, with a nice beefy XL350 and 19DHS of cooling. Solid ranged firepower via 2xLPL, and a brutal close combat punch.

ON1-IIC-B - dual LPL, Gauss, LRM30. Medium to long range fire support. At these ranges, you can get away with a smaller engine as it's easier to twist incoming damage.

And them's my builds.

Well, the damage on cLRM's scales down exponentially below 180m, so once you get to around 120m it's not worth firing them at all anymore, but yeah cLRM's are quite effective as flexible brawler/midrange weapons.

That build is kind of terrible though. One SRM4 isn't worth bringing, LRM20's are horrifically bad weapons (too much spread, way to low DPS/ton, it goes on and on), LBX autocannons are strictly worse. Don't use them at all, unless working to avoid ghost heat (and even then, just don't).

(Edit: The only acceptable reason to mount LBX autocannons is because they sound awesome, but knowing that they're bad. It's perfectly ok to use a bad weapon just because it's awesome!)

cLBX's are what you want for cluster shots/crit chancing exposed locations. But if you want point damage and never accidently jamming, buy the cAC's... they're built to the identical construction specs as the LBX's, they just use solid shots. So the clans have the option sorta, of an LBX class with cluster or solid as a result without them coding an ammo switch capability in. It'd be nice if they WOULD bring an dual-feed mechanism into play though. Just let an LBX feed with regular AC10 ammo as well as LB-10X ammo for example, depending on which position the toggle is it.

ON1-IIC-B
I used this one for a little while before I lost patience with the entire chassis and resorted to levelling the other three variants as missile boats instead. Extremely hilarious

I tried a Spirit-Bear-like approach in the II-A with 350xl, 2ml, 4x ASRM6, UAC20. Somehow it did not work at all for me in the Orion. Now I am back to boat lrms...
