I've played lots of MechWarrior games over the years, but I was never a Battletech TableTop player.

With that out of the way, I've been following discussions where players express their cravings for more detail, more enrichment, more "simmy" type of playability.

I've got a couple ideas around weaponry that might add to the game. I'm curious what CONSTRUCTIVE COMMENTS others might have.
  • SRM Targeting System.

Imagine if you will, the ability to fire SRMs at a specific part of your enemy's mech. One button would be used to cycle your targeting to legs, arms, torsos, head, or no specific area, etc. The SRMs wouldn't automatically hit these areas, but would have a percentage chance of doing most of their damage to the targeted area.

That percentage, call it accuracy odds or whatever, would grow with modules, skill tree progression, or something.

  • Heavy Weapons

Imagine if you will, the existence of some extra large weapons, for example a Heavy Gauss, which could only be mounted on Assault mechs, because the recoil is so powerful a small mech would knock itself over when fired.

The game wouldn't prevent you from mounting one on a medium mech, if you could shoehorn one on, but the chance of knocking yourself over, or damaging your mech when firing it, would make it prohibitive.

Maybe increasing skill with Heavy Weapons could be conferred with modules, or pilot skill tree.

  • Weapon Convergence

Maybe smaller weapons, like small lasers and small pulse lasers, should be better at convergence. IE, they should converge quicker. Since it seems like smaller mechs carry more clustered small lasers and small pulse lasers, this could be an advantage for smaller mechs.

I haven't thought this all the way through, by any means.

But, I just thought I'd put it out there to see what people think.

Regards,
Purple Puke.

SRMs are already aimable, simply with spread. Artemis reduces that spread.

Heavy Gauss when the time comes will be interesting. I'd rather see "stagger" than "knockdown" because PGI also cannot into knockdown. See this classic example of how badly they did knockdown as it's being demonstrated to a dev.

Weapon convergence is already "perfect", dynamic convergence was removed years ago. Small or large, it's all the same and instant. In fact, that's considered by some to be a problem...

In MW:4 Mercs my favourite mech was the Fafnir with the two heavy gauss rifles. Both offline and online.

So bring the Fafnir, bring the heavy gauss to MWO. Even if the gauss mechanic is different in MWO, it still could be great.
