Almost every game we wait the full 80 seconds.

The purpose of this delay is to give all players time to connect.

This is utterly pointless though. A 20 sec timer would be more than enough.

Theres always 1 - 3 guys afk/disco when the game actually starts. No matter if you wait 100 yeras or 1 thousandth of a nanosecond.

Sometimes you gotta wait a few minutes to find a game anyway. Then the voting screen which takes forever too - then the map loads which - by all means - takes forever too. And then another 80 seconds waiting for 1 - 2 ppl that havent connected only to see that...well.....1 - 2 ppl are disco or afk when the game starts anyway.

Cut those 80 secs to 20 or max 30 secs.

You not only wait 80 secs but then you have the dropship animation and the cockpit/powerup time. All in all it takes FOREVER (aka = forever + eternity) before the friggin actual game starts.

Way, way, WAAAYYYYYYY too long.

Its just way too long.

Cut all this waiting down as much as possible.

Right now thats by far the most annoying thing about mwo.

Thats the number one annoyance.

The solution is stopping disconnects.

This is so wrong, you should pinch yourself!

Just recently i made the transition from 8 year old potato (C2D E8200 @3.21 GHz, GTS 250, 4 GB RAM, Win7 32 bit, HDD´s everywhere!!!) to something more beefy (Win10 64 Bit, MWO installed on SSD, yadda yadda..) - lo & behold - i´ve jumped from usually being the last player being connected to usually being amongst the first. That means i´ve also "jumped" from 10 sec´s waiting time to the full out 60 seconds.

If anyone would be to follow your solution, it´d probably force more players into AFK / Disconnected role than there are already - it would also lead to MORE people leaving MWO. So unless you give out free SSD (that´s the main culprit in loading times imho) to each and every MWO player - it´s not a very good suggestion to make :D

I'd wager it has more to do with having a machine with a fresh install. I'm sure the SSD doesn't hurt, though.

Hit me up around xmas and i´ll have 'untidy' data Posted Image

If it lasts that long..
Getting the slight impression that win10 wants to kill my hdd - sadly cannot hear if it´s doing the same to the SSD.

Ah but you see, these people who disconnect from games or fail to join - it's not their fault! It's the fault of their internet provider, or PGI's servers, or their mom for resetting the router 'cos they wouldn't come to dinner! You should stop being so selfish; these people who go afk or disco or fail to join deserve to play the game just as much as you do.

On a more serious note, crashes do happen, and as long as people do their best to rejoin promptly, I have no problem with that.

I also can't say I notice long waits too often although they do happen, and it doesn't bother me that much, personally.

AFK/Discos that don't rejoin/come back really piss me off though.

I generally load in among the first handful of players to connect, and it only rarely goes the full time. Usually it jumps to the final ten seconds when there would otherwise be thirty or forty seconds left on the countdown.

Why so hasty?
From the time I make my map and game mode selections, I know I have time to hit the Keurig and make a tasty cup of coffee before "all systems nominal".

It's fine where it is because you could have the best rig in the world and still this damn game will crash

Yes, the waiting is an annoyance to be sure, but as others have said it might be that some guys actually just loads the map slowly and it would be pretty bad if the game got a reputation to give people with a faster PC a head start in actually starting to play :(

I would suggest to make something meaningful with the wait time instead, let everyone see the battlegrid and their teams' positions, and the commander could be able to draw on the map to make a initial plan of attack/defence.

For quick play I'd say the waiting time is just fine, it's how long it takes to get a match that sucks in quick play.

Now, if we were talking about Faction Play, I'd have to agree about wait times being too long, 12-20 minutes, just to end up in a "Dry Drop" (No opponents) just seems sometimes like a waste of time. Half the current waiting time would be fine and would encourage people to drop to save their planets. Not that I mind the free C-Bills, but shorter waiting times might get people to want to do FP more as no one likes those long waits.

Haven't you been watching TV? There is an epidemic of multitudes of "diseases", which is why they're selling you all kinds of medication.
