Lights are very unforgiving.

I pilot and own more Heavies than any other weight class, followed by Mediums. I own more Lights than Assaults, but my actual time in them is probably about even. I own all the way from Locusts to King Crabs, but the extremes of the weight scale are definitely the hardest to do well in, especially Lights. When I make a positioning mistake in a KGC, I can at least get some decent damage out before going down most of the time. When I just really end up some place I shouldn't be in my Locust/Raven/Jenner/Spider have a very good chance of being dead before I can get out of there to correct that mistake, and my Oxide is the only one of those with enough firepower to even go down swinging very hard.

I don't know what it is that has always drawn me to assault mechs. I guess the idea that its better to stand and fight than run away suits my personality most. At some point I will get a set of King Crabs and a set of Atlas' but while I'm still learning I would like the diversity of having mechs of different sizes.

Little update. Ive got 178 matches in and my K/D Ratio has climbed to .33 not great but it was really bad for a long time. I am at least trading out more game than not now.
Also I've found that ER-L Pulse Lasers are clearly my favorite weapon. Have the most damage done with them and a really high hit %.
I do need a lot more practice with Gauss rifles but I like to think I am improving, slowly.

I do not own any lights myself but I respect the mark they can leave in the hands of good pilots. I own more assaults than anything. I looooooove to take down lights with them, but I refuse to chase them. I learned that lesson the hard way lol.

Play enough and the son gets interested. Right now my 9 year old is going though the training grounds.

Oh yeah. Just gotten a new laptop and my 8 year old son is getting the old one. He's been canny enough to not mention it yet (those sparkling eyes though, whenever he somehow manages to mention both MWO and that laptop into a single conversation), I just know he's gonna clamor for his own account once that laptop is firmly his.

He's made a few rides in some of my mechs already. Even managed a kill, granted, his target had an open cherry red CT. Posted Image

Was away for work all week but was able to jump back into today. Wow it's like starting fresh. Took me a few games (i.e. Slaughters) to get back into the swing of things.
Have taken 2 Direwolf mechs to mastery and thanks to today's event I had the GXP to unlock a few good mods. I still don't have much for C-bills but I'm earning them slowly. I spent way to much getting my first mech just the way I like it.

I feel ya there. I had saved 1.9 million cbills and ended up blowing it and my 5 next match earnings today to build my Spirit Bear with a LB 20 X and srm6 loadout.

Edit: *FACEPALM* I coulda just used one of the LB 20 X From my KDK-3 and saved a cool 1.2 million. D'OH!!!

I was able to play 6 quick games last night and have been trying to unlock mastery on my Kodiak's so I played the Kodiak 1 and 2 mostly. After some quick weapon tweaks I had a great night. I was able to get 8 kills and only had 4 deaths in the 6 drops while going 5-1 as a team. One of my deaths came when me and 2 other Assaults held down the left side in an assault match while our entire team flanked around and captured the base without firing a shot. It was the best worst game i've played as a team.
