It would be an awesome faction if logistics were added but that time has come and passed for FW. Also PGI would have to make a different sort of game mode (raiding or defend the booty missions). Pirates would pay out the nose for repairs etc but have awesome salvage rights for whatever they manage to acquire.

I could see piracy being very popular but...........not going to happen.

A pirate faction would require melee combat in MWO, how else would pirate mechs make use of their hook arms? Also, does a pirate mech gain ghost heat for a broadside of over four cannons and will chainshot be allowed? Yarr! Shiver me timberwolves!

It would be great if pirates could use mechs from any faction, given that they are built up on salvage from anything they loot and don't have a central command over the entire faction governing which mechs they use. Pirate win payment could also be given in salvage via random equipment, if they lose they get nothing since they weren't able to secure anything for salvage crews, this could lead to masses of players not going for pirates so they don't get too big, but you'd have certain pirate crews (units) that would form up and raid planets, being a pirate is hard. It would be an interesting, unique, and fun faction to play, in my opinion worth more than having both Liao *and* Marik for example.

Maybe we could even make use of the periphery planets sitting around.

I love the idea of this, but I think it has to coincide with a bunch of interesting changes to FW.
FW would have to become a more compelling TT/board-game style of play mode so that pirates would be meaningful. Right now it would just be another random faction.

I know you're suggesting it should be more, I just mean it would be a big revamp beyond adding pirates.
For pirates to matter, FW needs to be like Total War, where pirates wrecking your trade lines would be a real problem (and maybe even bankrupt you). At the same time, the risk of being a pirate would have to have some sizeable payout.

Shabby resources? They take their salvage from the roughest of enemies and the blackest of markets, claiming entire pirate planets to store their never ending halls of loot, salvage, and rum!

But really though, by lore you do have the shabby pirates who are just a little better than a militia force, and then you have the pirate kingdoms able to have battalions of mechs, dropships, jumpships, infantry, vehicles, specialists and so on. The pirates that have survived long enough to be part of a successful kingdom are very skilled, elite specialists in their field looting enemy supplies and taking bases when needing to expand their territory. Also being a pirate they'd have access to any tech given the black market or looting supply lines, however they do prefer mechs with hands so they can pick up loot faster.

There is already a pirate faction....you see them in game with PGI tags. They looted our monies and alienated their own community as a small group indeed.

They are fondly know as The Butt-Pirates.
