I remember a town hall or dev blog from ages ago where someone at PGI (Russ?) said they were going to focus on using existing map assets to create "new" maps while also working on new maps with brand new assets that will then add to the toolbox for more maps in the future.

The example give (IIRC) was Mining Collective. All those elements were reused from previous maps, but the result is still a new map for the players to stomp around while they created new assets for Viridian Bog.

In that same interview, I remember PGI saying they were shooting for one new map every month. One month would be a new map, the following month would be a reused asset map. What happened to the cadence that PGI stated? I'm normally not one to b!tch out this sort of thing, but even I am surprised at the lack of new maps lately. Especially if they were planning to make maps without needing new models and assets. I feel that PGI could make a sweet Asteroid Mining Facility map by fusing Mining Collective's assets w/ the environment and skybox of HPG.

We don't need new maps as much as we need new ways of playing the ones we have.

Random drop and objective positions please PGI!

They went back and decided to revamp the existing maps using dynamic time-of-day, breakable objects, etc. The players wanted that and their resources went into it.

Personally, I would have preferred new maps like you, but the revamped maps did keep up player interest for a while.

They were probably talking about CW/FP/FW maps, I remember specifically them saying they were releasing 5+ new faction maps before they even mentioned 4v4.

Polar and Grim are welcome additions but we need more maps, and I don't care if they make 10 maps using the HPG assets as long as they don't come out terrible and one sided.
