I do this one looks cool, I just don't understand the use of the compact engine and undergunning that resulted from that.

But your pilot would have aimbotting, wallhack, and could rip enemy pilots out of their mechs and use them once your mech dies.

So it would be like playing as moderatepudding.

I can think of about a dozen reasons to never have ANY of the Celestial series see the light of day starting with the Jihad was a crap story line....

There was no jihad story line and certainly no dark age. The whole thing is just fanfiction written in the throws of a fever dream.

I took a break for a couple of months, and it did make me happier with the game. I was playing Overwatch and Dark Souls 3 and Armored Core 2: Another Age. Have fun. :3

If you never played TT, then you would never understand. The thing is an actual zombie (unless you get headcapped that is).

It wouldn't translate well to MWO, because MWO doesn't handle engine translation well period (see XL vs STD debate that has been somewhat ongoing since beta). C3i would also most likely be less awesome than it was in TT, especially if you hid mechs within short range (wasn't ever sure if that was a bug within megamek).

Ignoring the mechanics, I think if this 'Mech exist in MWO people will just ignore it in battle because of the meh firepower.

No, it's really quite simple. The Plasma Rifle would fit in the CT with a standard engine. Apparently most Compact Engine based designed in TT have this issue of wasting the CT slots, according to my cursory research. Alternatively, I think a PPC with a PPC Capacitor would fit in the CT as well. It's just an ill conceived use of the concept.

...no not really.

If you don't like it because of the lore that's fine. I personally like the Jihad because it added a level of campiness and purpose to the game that had been missing since the early 90s. I'll agree there are a lot of meh things about it though. There are in every era and I'm sure you've seen all the arguments like I have.

But if you don't like it due to the way it plays because you "tried it" before... then that's just sour grapes since you've indicated how much experience you have using it.

Sorry for ya, bro... I can say nothing to OP or Archangel doa or not
But here is a BT player that stopped playing because of Jihad crap $h1t.
Face it, BT died with FASA (except Fedcom, maybe)

FedCom civil war was during the last days of FASA, technically, even though the last novel or two were during the transition period, as was MW4.

Maybe for you, but Catalyst seems to be doing better than Fasa. Mostly because Catalyst isn't run by Jordan 'ADHD' Weisman.

But I'm not going to take your nostalgia goggles off. You're allowed to pretend things don't happen. Denial of facts is a very human thing to do

If you think this is the sole point of mounting a compact engine, you are again confused. It's the fact it has less engine crits that make it more of a zombie mech, not what weapon it has in the CT, that is provided there are still plenty of crit being used in that section (I'm at work atm, so I'm unable to check which variants "waste" CT crits).

I wanna say the A,C, and Berith are some of the strongest variants on the Archangel, but I'm not for sure these days.

Plus by putting a compact engine in, you reduce the chance of getting crit based on how determining crits works. In CTs you have 2 groups of 6 crits. Normal engines and gyros take up 3 slots each in group 1, and 1 gyro and 3 engine slots take up group two, leaving two empty spaces. Since the Archangel mounts a compact gyro and engine, suddenly the chance of getting a gyro or engine hit has been reduced by more than half because there are only 3 engine and 2 gyro slots taking up group 1 with nothing in group 2 (determining if you hit group 1 or 2 is a 50/50 chance). So whatever you put in group 2 absorbs the hit that would cause serious problems in a normal mech.

Statistically it's a significant survival advantage as long as you have something in group 2 to absorb the hit. Doesn't matter how many crit sizes it takes up.

but only if group 2 has something in it. and once that this is destroyed, then all crit rolls are rerolled to 1st area anyhow. It helps, especially in a packed CT, but doesn't change the powecreep nature of mechs and techs in that era one whit, sadly.

So I was like "what mechs should I want in the game." So I browsed the wiki for a bit and ended up on the Archangel.

Looks pretty cool, right? It has chest gun and everything!

WRONG! Not only is it not within the timeline, it has one of the most ill conceived pieces of tech powering it. The Compact Fusion Engine.

This engine is EXTRA HEAVY, supposedly so you can fit the big PPC in the center, even though you could probably just run a standard engine, and put the smaller Plasma Cannon there. Sure, it's less zombie, but you're practically halfway a zombie with only 2 guns.

NVA does fine in this game with Jj's and 2 Erppcs....

Uh, a large majority of the time the structure would fail before you can crit an engine to death. You still have the Compact Gyro, and the new equipment. An engine crit slot would only realistically be hit half of the time if there is a crit, and you're probably out of structure if you take 3 CT crits anyway.

Which is kinda the point, because often mechs die due to enough engine crits before the structure goes, especially if TACs are being played with, which is what makes them stay in the fight longer. The compact gyro is especially nice because gyro hits are about as bad as engine crits.
