Glad you have been able to isolate part of the issue and to getting things going. From the sound of it the FX8350 is OC and the voltages may have been too high? If so, that would definitely be the primarily cause of your issue. And if the voltages had been set for awhile, getting them in line is a big step. The next one will be the heatsink situation.
Also, are you also using the stock cooler for it? My nephew that I previously mentioned, his CPU is also the fX8350 running with the stock cooler which had to be disassembled to thoroughly clean it. I then ordered Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO to replace the stock cooler to facilitate the ease of keeping it clean of dust build up, since the stock HS/Fan actually made it difficult to thoroughly clean with compressed air.

Yep, as soon as I saw your first post, I was gonna tell you - Heat!
I got:
AMD cpu
Nvidia graphics Card
I got:
AMD cpu
Nvidia graphics Card
- When CPU gets to 60C, cause of high ambient temperature - that's it. The whole comp shuts down sometime. Find a way to keep it cool.
- I hardly ever run latest NVidia drivers. If stuff works - don't touch them. I always have the last working driver version backed up. There were times when latest Nvidia drivers were glitched, and then they would come up with the version after that - and those would be just fine. So keep that in mind.
- If you see graphics lag - turn down the settings
- Clean dust of the heat sinks, once in a while.
- Monitor your temps when you play.
- If all else fails, put a box house fan next to your comp for hot temperature times due to hot weather or watever

If he is using the stock fan that comes with it, it is a royal pita to clean.

i am closing this chapter finally - allow me to explain.
ok i had my pc cleaned finally 100% including the cpu fan. they blew air on the heatsink and even straightened a little bend it had so it looks brand new. today in the morning.
they re applied thermal paste to my cpu.
they added one more fan to my case. now it's 2 case fans and the fan that is on top of cpu. (and the gpu has 2 fans of its own that are built into the gtx770)
i reset my bios to standard so i undid everything.
i test the computer and i find even clean and with a new fan the cpu still briefly passes 60 degrees celcius. that's no good!!!! so finally i found out what did work and what did not and what was misguided of me;
so after some research into my whole dilemma here and going through everything once again
THIS is how i should have dealt with it from the beginning, my cpu was overheating so these are the steps i had to take to solve my problem completely:
-1. limiting the max_fps in game was a big help to keep my cpu and cpu fan from reaching critical values. i set it to max_fps 40.
-2. my motherboard is a msi gaming 970 - instead of undervolting my cpu what i should have done from the start was to set TURBO MODE OFF and that's it. leave the clock and volt in auto mode. turbo mode is what was causing a ton of that heat!!!! now i know. and it wasn't a great idea to undervolt to be honest because i had to reset the cmos... msi turbo mode is on by default for some mucked up reason. it makes me want to ask them what their problem is.
-3. maybe the 32 bit client. i am not sure how influential this is, but it seems more stable. if anything.
-4. graphics don't matter and didn't matter and never matter - the bottleneck as far as this game is concerned is CPU and it always was. i run the 32 bit version at 40 fps with real nice graphics and it's of absolutely no concern. i shoulda known the bottleneck for this game was cpu.. well hopefully this will help someone else in the future.
will now mark the thread as SOLVED
edit: i moved the new fan around and instead of making it blow hot air out i put it in backwards to blow cool air into the case and i got a 30% improvement. one of my fans pulls air in and the one pointing to the back of the cpu tower is the one that blows hot air out of the system. air is rushed in and out and that works amazingly well.
edit2: i modified the fan speeds in bios manually afterward. - i set them to start off at 75%-80%.
they are not making almost any noise but now temps are great

I had the same problem as the OP...however, it was graphic drivers it appears. I noticed somehow that my drivers were non-existant for my Nvidia card - not sure how that happened. However, I updated to the latest drivers and seemed to fix the problem.
