I've brought my old "upgraded stock" triple PPC 8Q out of mothballs and it's doing Ok in the current mid-tier meta, but I expect it will do better post rescale. If nothing else, bigger (on average) mechs means it is easier to hit with PPC's.
I also just like the new look better - it's not a HUGE difference, but it does make the Awesome look scarier vs. overly wide, blocky, and dopey.

or something similar..and then it'll still be about the CT and STD Engine.
This has been asked for for ages now. Move the shoulders to the arm hitbox, make the ST move in towards the CT, shrink the CT. Would make the arms actually have a use for more then 20 armor, and allow the torsos to spread dmg more easily.
Who knows, maybe they actually did this with the rescale. I doubt it though. If nothing else changes besides it got a little more narrow, and a little more "thick", it will be a net=0. IMO, from the side it will be easier to hit CT, or I guess "miss the arms" is more accurate because the "face" of the mech sticks out farther now.
Without a hitbox overhaul similar to your graphic, the Awesome will be able to face tank a minimal amount better, but twist/roll dmg a minimal amount worse. Sounds like a wash to me, which would leave the poor thing in the basement where it has been since the Battlemaster released years ago.

The 8R used to be legitimately badass when there was no ghost heat on 4xLRM15s...

They all were stout.... until there was more than 4 Assault chassis to pick from.
Atlas better then Awesome? Eh they do different things.
Stalker better then Awesome? Yeah prettymuch in every way, but Awesome still had some tricks up it's sleeve like the 9M speed, 8R pure sun blocking lurm blob ability, etc.
HGN better? Well mostly, but some comparable loadouts could go either way, and the rest were pretty significant hardpoint differences.
Victor? Yeah basically better..... not to far off though
Battlemaster? Yup. And with every subsequant release(in general) we saw how PGI had learned it's lessons in mech modeling/construction and watched the Awesome stay at it's near the bottom rank, on a growing list of mechs.
If you mastered it fairly early, or after it got it's best quirk pass, you prolly had an ok time. The rest of that time it was pretty rough, unless you had a real knack for the thing. Comparativeily of course. Any mech can wreck it if you have talent and enough effort put in. Just that a lot of them require less effort on orders of magnitude less than the Awesome.

Keeping my fingers crossed that Power Draw will turn it into the PPC beast that it deserves to be.

Those are much better proportions. If it was like this then you'd see a lot more Awesome.
Exactly, note how high up the weapon hardpoints are on the MW4 version. The AWS in MW4 is apparently a young woman, the MWO one is an old granny with saggy ****.

My bet is ont the Battlemaster, personally. That mech is actually pretty good as is, and one of them has really good structure quirks...

So, after my first few games, i think they tuned the hitboxes in favor of the Awesome. I had some good brawls in my pretty baby wit cherry red side and center torso (XL400). She is not op, but its an step in the right direction for the chassis.
Your opinion?

Looks like the Mauler.
So it could be a slightly shorter and slightly thinner Mauler... yeah, that could work.

They may have done this; they certainly do seem more durable. Hit boxes are manually created and based around the overall shape of the mech. There's no reason to believe the old hit boxes were very good, so it's quite possible that when cleaning up the Awesome model they also fixed some overly large or blocky hitboxes. They wouldn't mention it specifically in the patch notes since almost every mech was changed.
Anyway, I like them better now. All they really need, IMHO, is to have the Pretty Baby cleaned up so it's no longer junk. If they refuse to add another large energy hardpoint in the right arm or left torso, at least raise the missile tube count on the left arm to something reasonable, like 10. As is, it can't effectively mount 3 SRM6's, which is silly for an assault mech.

I honestly need to get an MM run long enough without a ragequit to tell. I still hate how tiny the PPCs look, and the jutting nipple effect, but those are relatively minor, as a whole. As for play? I've only run it one match. And my team went and got mopped 12-1 with me getting the whole 1 to go with my whipping 300 dmg. but since that's been my experience 4 out of 5 matches for the last 6 months...it's hard to get the gumption up to actually play. I'll try to drop a few times in my 8Q today, landlord and Montezuma's Revenge allowing.

appreciated. Just tired. Crappy ISP issues mean my time online is limited, my crappy laptop means I'm playing at 1/2-2/3 the efficiency I was.... but even then, 3/4 of the time I'm top score on a team that does jack crap...... because it really feels like players have gotten even more timid, or dumber or both, since Steam.
Add in Russ's Esport fixation, the Tweedle-Dee Triplets continued rescale whining, etc.....
It's tiring. And depressing. And everytime I see that "A Battletech Game" in the header I wanna punch someone because this is many things...but it certainly is NOT a Battletech game anymore.
