i find this mech pretty much outranges everything. i can comfortably engage at 1000+ meters

1 gauss + 2erll.

works every time there is an open map and i manage to keep distance. i had similar matches in grim plexus and tourmaline desert.

since these sniping weapons do a great job on their own i also got 2srm4. they come in handy for when a light mech shows up, or enemy closes the gap through a trench or when gauss runs out.

they are very useful. besides the sniping weapons do a great job on their own already. so getting 2srm4 to help increase the dps i find to be a lifesaver up close. i have finished off heavy mechs up close like this and also cicadas and the like.

you can put this build in every single variant of IS orion.

but the orion V has quirks that make this really good imo

std300,
2erll + range mods.
gauss + cooldown mod.
2.5 tons of gauss ammo
2srm4.
1 ton of srm ammo.

put this in any orion variant if you want, but i recommend the ON1-V

now, the biggest problem besides flankers are lurms; so you may have to grind that mastery slot to get the advanced zoom + the radar derp

you can put the srm4 on the sidetorso too, but putting it in the arm allows to shoot to the side etc. (the spread is kinda bad though)

ok, apparently this would work in the orion iic as well with a bigger srm payload, i added targetting comp mk1. idk if you would really need targetting comp mk2 cause i don't own the iic orion.

seems like it would work though

Only one question with that Orion IIC build. Why on earth would you run a standard engine on that? Clan XL engines are vastly superior to both Clan Standard engines and IS XL engines. Here is a more appropriate build.

ON1-IIC

ON1-IIC

Your build improved: ON1-IIC

Thoughts:
- reduced the number of DHS (they are still too many, I guess)
- removed explosive ammo from CT
- better balanced armor
- more ammo for SRMs and Gauss

Optional: replace the 2 ASRM6s for 3 SRM4s, freeing 2 tons. If you want a sniper, you could replace those 2 ER LL for 2 ER PPCs...

now i am thinking you can do 3 ERLL on the iic...

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...638e12cefaa59b4

but.. would it be as good as dual gauss on the iic-c?

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...c86e89f47269a9b

i'd have to try it out but i still dont have anything clan unlocked..

Maybe I'll try out the dual gauss -IIC-C, though I'm not overly fond of sniper weapons on low torso mounts

EDIT: Gave it a whirl. Swapped the two ERLL for a pair of MPL, heat sinks and a targeting comp I. Naturally the first and only game I've played in it so far was on Mining Collective, one of the best brawling maps in the game, but cranked out 480-ish damage including 20 accidental team damage from someone running in front of me just as I fired both gauss rifles

EDITED EDIT: Also, it looks kind of hilarious with how much the barrels stick out

OP build looks great fun - I love threads like this that make me look at mechs I had not previously considered.
