its not like a pug.....and then they don't tell you what they want you to do different, every 2 of 3 games someone with brains chimes in and is helpful but most often just "dickish".
sorry for my lack of "skills"
Are any of the factions/clans/player groups better to new players....before i buy the wrong mechs or waste my time.
the learning curve on this game is rough anyway......just would like to get to the next level.

Yea, the abuse gets bad at times. I know some "better" players who drop, give up quickly and then talk crap about the newer players. They tell them to go away and play QP. And a good number of them are not that great, they just partly want to blame you for them and the team not doing better.
When what they should be doing is helping the newer players. It would take 2 minutes a game to talk things out.
I'd almost say stay off during this event because the Units you will face are very good and out for prizes. And the good players soloing in Clan drops are mostly looking to get their prizes.
A lot of newer players also need to take some responsibility and use some of the info that can be found. Simply talking at the drop zone before everyone running to a gate is a good idea.

my suggestion would be to speak up in VOIP or type something in chat, mention you want to work with the rest of the team so please can they tell you the plan.
in my experience if you have a group larger than a 4 man on your team they will take the lead, but all too often smaller groups and solo players are not willing to play along, so they may have given up on trying to direct the other players, if you tell them you want to work with them they are usually all to happy to give you some directions.

As someone who played 1 game in faction before going back to the PUG queue, factionplay in this game is one of the most elitist environment I've encountered.
Basically, the feeling you get is that unless you're in a team belonging to a unit with VOIP and top tier meta-mechs you are going to get stomped and the only way to get into a unit in the first place is to first have a drop deck with top tier meta-mechs.
Which is why most solo casual players like me stick to PUGs.
It's kind of sad really, that while faction play looks fun, it is set up in away that at the moment manage to alienate a large part of the player base.
And why I think the devs are working on stock mech modes and stuff for it.
So I totally get why you feel that established players in faction play doesn't want new players as that's pretty much the same feeling all new players get.

There is no match making in FP, so you could easily drop with or against crack vet teams, and neither of those things happening are usually pleasant for new pilots.
Usually if you are tagging along with premade unit, then they are probably using their own VOIP server, so it is not rare for them not to use in game VOIP.
Again, I encourage you to build some fundamentals first in QP, and once you are solid there then reconsider FP. Also, you really want to do it in a group or better yet a unit. Hop over to the FP forums and see who is recruiting when you are ready.

I've got something close to 300 drops, and I'm no where near ready for Faction play yet. I have learned this.
After figuring out what I need for a drop deck... I realized I would rather play QP, because I would rather pilot a light mech instead of driving myself utterly insane in the sluggishness of a heavy.
I don't think people would be too keen on me bringing 3 lights and a heavy to the fight.
From what I've gathered, typical faction play, is a bit like a gaming league. Often times, guys show up on the other team in large groups, that know each other's strengths and weaknesses and have been playing together for a while. They know when to move, how to move and how to focus fire.

If you are good in those Lights, not many will care. I have seen many a Locust of Jenner tearing people up in CW before.
lights are the ninja's of MWO and they have to be even more in future :>
but beeing a ninja was NEVER an easy thing. so i admire all the good light pilots here because im bad in them

Possible. Need to work on my KDR. Trying to master the Raven, and getting used to the different loadouts is... challenging.
I'm a fan of the 3L or 3L(C), 4X isn't bad... but the H... Thats the challenge. Quad MG, SRM6 doesn't leave much room for mistake.

I mastered my Ravens on 3L, 2X, 4X, and only got the Huginn later. I love my Huginn, although it isn't the type of mech I would take into CW. 4x MG and 2xSRM4s run cooler and actually give you a better DPS than the SRM6s. It also frees up some weight to carry more engine/armor/ammo. Even the alpha on the 4s isn't that much worse because 4s don't spread nearly as much as 6s do, so although it is less damage more of it stays on target. The Huginn is much better at going after larger targets than fighting other Lights. Scout some or hang back to escort your Assaults early in a match and then go eat people up once the enemy Heavies and Assaults have had a chunk of their armor stripped away. Once the majority of armor is gone, those SRMs easily punch through what is left and then MGs chew up internals so well.

This is exactly what I do...
Every QP match I play in the Huginn, I VOIP my intentions on staying behind the assault/heavy push and chew up what they shoot at. Sometimes it goes as planned... then other times its Polar Highlands with no ECM.

RVN-3L, CPLT-JESTER, JM6-FIREBRAND, CPLT-K2. NOT a badass meta deck by far. Never has been, never will be. Not even really optimal builds for those mechs. The Jester was 2xLL, 4xML, 2x AMS. The K2? 2x UAC/5, 4x ML. Firebrand? 2x LPL, 2x LL. And the Raven was built to the Champion mech standard. One of those 4 mechs even carried a STANDARD engine, and it's NOT the one with the squishiest side torsos.
Let's talk milestones, though, for a scrub like me. Something you want to do is set target numbers for damage, and when you can consistently hit that number, then you bump that target up by, say, 500. First target I set was 1,000. For a complete scrub, who'd been on a 16-month break from the game, and was mostly a scrub light pilot before then, that's a relatively ambitious number. And with that deck? Yeah. Second match in FW, I hit that target.
So saying that it requires these elite skills and full-on meta tryhard builds? RIDICULOUS. Maybe you won't be carving out 4,000 damage per match, and maybe you won't beat-back the 10v1-me-bro zerg rushes single-handedly. But you can learn pretty quickly to pull your weight in a sub-optimal deck, with sub-optimal skills, among the skittles. If I can, YOU f***ing can too. ANY of you. Some guy who's blind and deaf and missing both hands and playing with a steering wheel can do it, if I can do it.
No whining. Wanna play FW? Then f***ing do it. Mute the jerks. Be a team player for everyone, jerk or not. Share your armor, share your firepower. Focus. Prioritize. Win. REK STUFF.
Only thing stopping you from doing that is YOU. NOT the 'tryhard jerks', not the 'niche meta builds', none of it. YOU. Nothing at all else stops you from playing your game. NOTHING.
