Mechs with ECM firing weapons will look like that. Key is firing back at that location to make them move. Also, switch your vision mode, be it infrared or or night vision to make the mech stand out. I also like to set zoom on the mouse wheel.

It was likely an ECM cheetah equipped with ERLL, playing it like a ECM raven does.

Dropships sometimes shoot through terrain.

Don't let it bring you down man. Lag and HSR can play havoc on what you see on your screen versus what actually happened.

I see it happen where lasers seem to pass through mountains, probably a lag issue

I'm colour-blind and on Emerald Taigi, this is a real problem. Getting shot beyond thermal range means its impossible to return fire, as everything is a blue/green smear at that range.

It's not much different for non color-blinds, mechs are difficult to spot regardless of their camo and paintjob.
You should switch to heatvision, mechs will pop up and stand out (Either white mechs on black background like on emerald where the mech usually is hotter then the enviroment or a black mech on white background on hot maps such as vitric)

Generally you might just return fire towards the end of the laser beam, there is usually a mech attached.

The snipers are usually out of range of heat vision too.

Good example; old Forest Colony map during, just after they introduced the 'mist' effect and ECM, I was watching the road. Couldn't see anything coming until the Atlas-DDC dorito popped up... at 200m after marching directly at me for 500m.

Visibility was *really*really* bad with those colour effects.
