Vehicles moved back and forth across the bay dropping off either pilots, ammunition and other supplies. Younger pilots would have taken a lift to get to the top of the mech and then lowered themselves into the cockpit. No, not him. A polymer ladder was suspended from the top of the mech, old school… You have respect for the mech you drive, the pilots you walk into battle with, the pilots you fight against, and their unit in which they serve. But the clans were different...
Reaching the open hatch of the Top Dog, he lowered himself in. Scarred hands flipped switches and pressed buttons which first brought up the comms systems, brought the rest of the cockpit online, and then finally and most importantly, the neuro helmet.
The hatch closed and sealed the cockpit with a hiss. Mookie lowered the neuro helmet onto the shoulders and finished strapping himself into the command chair. The techs game him the thumbs up and released the restraining bars from the mech. Mookie walked the Top Dog across the now barren bay over to one of the drop chutes. Two techs in high altitude gear were manning the chutes. Three other chutes were similarly being loaded.
Two large robotic arms moved to the back of the Thunderbolt and jarred the big mech. Magnetic bolts locked into place as temporary jump jets attached to the rear of the mech. There was a sudden lurch as the Union Class Dropship Thanatos, entered the atmosphere. Natural gravity took over. Warning sirens went off as lights around the doors flickered from white, then to red, and then finally to green.
Once the lights went solid green the doors opened. For the first time in months, Mookie could see solid ground far below him...about fricking time. Warning sirens started to scream and the mech and was lifted into the drop chute, suspended like a marionette over nothing, feet dangling in the air. Just sitting there from what seemed like an eternity….
Mookie knew what he was up against: genetically bred super soldiers, in mechs with far superior weapons, armor, and mobility. He knew the type of training they have had since birth, their level of expatiation from their leaders, and their level of motivation. This is what he thought about that…
Those morons are about to find out that I am an old man in a young man’s profession. This old dog’s bite is no less lethal: you vat grown, self-exiled morons who killed their own “Great Father”, confused last name ancestral idiots, who mimic some animal by either howling at the moon or screeching like a chicken with a broken leg.
“Aw come on, just hit the damn button… you fricking sky jockey”… Without warning the catapult in the drop chute pushed sixty-five tons straight down. SGM “Mookie Dog” was out the door in less than second. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA BABY YAAAAA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Over five hundred other mechs were now in free-fall in Steiner space.

Donegal, Jade Falcon Occupation Zone
Marsdenville
A freshly prepared Fusionaire quickened an exhausted Jade Falcon warrior.
Pearls of cold water ran down the glass. A door opened and a fellow warrior sat down besides the first one.
"You heard?"
"What?"
"Davion is coming to rescue Steiner."
Silence ensued for a moment then the first patron stood up in a swift movement and presented his cocktail for a toast.
"To Davion! Finest LRM boats in the entire Inner Sphere!"
That was well said. lol

Wanted to say - full on hero level props to Pork Roll for holding the fort for so long. I hope we can shake a few of the other old school Steiner diehards back to the front. CJF is a mercenary faction; the bulk of their troops are mercs. Steiner is now the biggest concentration of loyalist units in the game. Want to see how the shakes out.

Going to be a lot of fun and better than that, there is going to be a lot of matches in the offing.
This is what FW needs, sounds trite but action from us = more matches.

Ended up losing with omega 2/3rds dead as our 3rd and 4th waves were fairly disorganized. But if I can do it with 2 squad mates and a bunch of pugs WITH a disconnect (and we would have won it with him), there's no reason to be afraid of the big bad clanners.
Get together, get on TS, communicate, and FFS PUSH into the clan mechs. They run too hot and can't DPS in a brawl. Then break their visual right leg. Works like a champ.
