How about not releasing half completed projects if they don't want the complaining to happen? You act like this is the first time that PGI has screwed up something on release...

They're still not reversing the new map.
They're just changing the zoom setting. Still no pointers, no view indicator.

The new Default zoom level I think will go back to the same map rotation and torso indicators as before, all should be verified soon.

Not sure what it means but it sounds like the map will rotate with you again...

I agree and disagree. At least it's not a rollback. He could have givin people time to adjust, mice can find their ways our of a maze im pretty sure my mechwarrior brethren can learn to use the map.

But honestly it needs A LOT of polishing. I can learn to live without rotation but the maps are too big to be fully zoomed out but it cant be as zoomed in as it used to be or it cant be used tactically. And the icons need changing to be easily distinguishable, i want them thiner and slimer with different shapes and my arrow should point where i am lookin not where my legs are facing...

In a world where removing game features and functionality is development... :P

I can guarantee you that once the change goes in, not only will the original benefits of what Russ wants still be in-game, you'll still have the functionality from before. That will be development.

Best thing is: Obviously they were (again) totally unprepared for the disaster they would unleash. And They didn't even prepare a forum post to explain all of this. AND now that they see what they have done, Russ is like "Well, there may be a post today. Or tomorrow. Who cares?".
Every responsible dev team would have someone online for damage control (ok, whom am I kidding, every responsible dev team would have seen this coming from miles away), but PGI is like "Ah, time to go home, let me just upoad that big patch that may break the game before I turn off the lights!"

There! Now that will be fixed. Cant believe all the crying, Russ clearly said they would look into the issue with zoom level and such in the town hall. Some around here are incredible fanatic about their tears.
Also I love the new Frozen City. Alot of options for different kinds of fights.

I'm familiar with the process...I just turned in my first draft all the time and never had anyone look it over lol.

The problem here is that SOMEONE should have tried playing a game they are making money off of...this isn't just some random college paper.

Well, far be it from me to interfere... but maybe a community manager might need to look into the lack of overall Mod/Community interaction?

Sucks that most Mods are totally unapproachable.

Changing the zoom will not fix the fact that the new map is Strategic(i.e. static, conveying information that is only useful to a commander sitting in the rear area) when this game is is a TACTICAL combat game. The old mini map was a tactical map and only needed, if anything, was to relay more information, i.e. where air/arty strikes were incoming, who needed support, etc.

In the coming months? Ok, I'll start playing again in the coming months then.

New info:
Yes new default will rotate as before

This will hopefully fix it for a lot of folks, me included

From what I can tell, the hotfix is just a change in zoom-in on the map.

They'll make broader fixes in Map 2.1, but that'll probably be a while. That's the "new default" he's talking about.

New default view will have cone of vision yes

also, self orienting, etc.

About the only thing he has not budged on is directional indicators for all the units on the map, which I am fine with.

Most mods here usually don't get involved like this because sometimes they can't be unbiased, I'll admit I am sometimes, but only in extreme cases (AKA false information, Ad Hominem, etc. I'm still merging threads and such)
