HI Crimson,
seeing as you just bought a BLR-1G I will set up a series of links below that will show a progression of upgrades I would do to the mech.
BLR-1G <--First upgrade to Double Heat Sinks (DHS)
BLR-1G <-- Second upgrade, Endo Steel and a 360 standard engine. You can sell the 340 to offset the cost of the 360 series.
BLR-1G <-- Final version, this build while less than optimal, is still extremely survivable due to the standard engine, as well as playing to the quirks of the chassis.

You are very welcome Crimson, the advantage of what I posted, is that you can do it all in stages, and gives you an idea of how to go about it. The other thing I would suggest is adjust armour locations to your preference.

I equipped mine with an XL390 and it's really another mech.
I have been known to run my Trollmaster
Yes I know it's bad, but it is really funny, when people pop the ST expecting you to die and you don't, it usually buys you a second or two to finish them as they are in shock.

Your own, you will develop your own play-style over time. What I did was show you one idea that builds to the strengths of the mech, and will help you learn how to run it effectively, my BLR-1G has been tweaked for my preferences, as I am very comfortable with auto cannons.
In the list I gave you, it was a progressive change from the basic unit, going through upgrades over time, as C-bills allow. As I know not everyone has hundreds of millions of c-bills sitting in their banks.

Only downside is a little low on ammo for the ACs, switch out the AMS and ammo for 1 more DHS and another half ton of AC ammo.

Edited: Nice build Metus

It's got punch, and I run it like an over sized Centurion, so it's actually rather nasty.
