Wrong, pilots can be UP, thats why some cannot be OP in OP mechs.

an OP mech is OP because hes superior to another mech. Just becasue a pilot I not able to profit form this superiority isn't what defines the mech, it just defines the UP' ness of a pilot.

Yes and no, I would adjust that to read that some pilots are under performing in some mechs, compared to other mechs. Me, I suck with Storm Crows, I can't make them do much, other than die in a fantastically disappointing way when I pilot them, yet give me a Centurion and I'm consistently putting up 2-3 solo kills with around 400 damage, hell give me a Dragon, and I'm putting up 2-3 kills with the same 400-ish damage. Both of these mechs are either slightly lighter or slightly heavier than the Storm Crow, with IS equipment. Both of them when I pilot them, out preform my Storm Crows by a decent showing, I've used both to beat Timber Wolves. Now does this make me UP or OP? I would at best consider myself average at MWO, with being slightly better in some mechs than others, but well not everyone is meant to be a pilot of any given mech to the best of that mech's abilities I find.

yes but it is therefore your fault, not the SCR ones. A judgement of a mech is made by it's possible performance, not by the plot not being able to handle the mech. A formula 1 car isn't just worse because you sit in it and can't pilot it. Because the car hasn't changed. So judgement of amehc needs always the consideration of equal pilots in skill knowing what they do. Which therefore means you are UP when it comes to controlling the SCR. but that you can't blame the SCR for, even less should be the base of balance changes.

I never said that I blame the Storm Crow, just that I can't use it right. At the end of the day the Storm Crow is a tool, a useless hunk of metal with out someone to pilot it. If someone is going to pilot it, I would prefer if that pilot is more in tune with the mech, than someone who isn't, that way they can push the mech to it's limits. I don't rate the mechs, I rate the people piloting it.

I'll dare you sir!

I'll have you know I take far more pride in my mech building skills than my marksmanship! Posted Image

Ok.. Just being a little silly here, but always see here on the forums how X is OP. In all honesty no mech is really that OP.. Sure there are exceptions, like the Pre-Patch Oxides/Jenner IIc's, but lets give credit, where credit is due, You, the pilots.

I have tried many of the mechs people claim are OP, the Oxides, Streak Crows, Boom Jeagers, etc.. and you know what? I totally suck in them.. Yup.. can't hit squat. Give me certain mechs and I'll take top score in a match, just usually not in mechs people claim are OP. I regularly get good scores in mechs that others will quickly avoid, Dragons for example, I have on occasion done excetionally well in them (Over 700 damage), and yet most people think they suck.

It's the pilot that makes a mech OP. I see some people wrecking everyone in certian mechs, yet I, which am by far not the best pilot, but no worse than the guy piloting the same mech can't use the same as well. We all have our favorites and mechs we do well in so give yourselves some credit. Are some mechs better than others? Sure, but its YOU that makes it OP, not the mech itself.

This premise is false.

Just because there are terrible players being awful in the most powerful mechs, does not mean that those mechs are not the most powerful mechs.

The way you compare, is you take two players or teams or relatively equal skill (pilot skill & tactical/map knowledge skill) - the team/player that is using the more powerful mechs and loadouts will be the one that wins.

Your premise would be like saying a Formula 1 Race Car is not superior to a stock Toyota Corolla for racing, it is completely driver dependent.

And then we let someone's 80 year old grandma drive the Formula 1 car, and a professional Race Car driver use the Toyota to demonstrate that the two vehicles are equal at racing.

I think that the OP is right that sometimes a mechs OP'ness is a bit exaggerated, but its certainly true that some are better than others. As a pilot of traditionally bad mechs (My Nova went to college this year!) I have plenty of experience wrecking the faces of meta mechs, but im certain that if you handed an average player my mechs and a meta mech, he's going to do better in the meta mech.

this may be true but this is not the right comparison, a hammer is good for nailing things, and mostlikely better than a stick. however someoen not abel to handle the hammer may hammer a nail in better with a stick. But does this make the hammer a worse tool? If you wan't to compare tool, you always imply people using the tool are sufficiently trained to properly use the tool.

Rating mechs is important if you want to succesfully compete with orher good pilots, because only with the right tool and trainign you will be able to get better than the others. A caveman in a tank won't be useful for sure, but this does not make the tank a worse wepaon than a catapult. technlogy will always be compared by its possibilities not by its possible derp users. Users are subject to change and to train.

PGI can not decise which peopel take which mech, people decide the mech they take. PSR should rate people and put them where they belong that is the pilot rating, but it also takes the mech rating into account, sicne a bad pilot in a better emch still may perform better than a bad pilot in a bad mech. But at the end of the day, mechbalance needs to be done without skill consideration because PGI is able to alter mechs, not people.

The mech is a tool. If you suck at using a hammer it's not the hammer's fault no matter the hammer model you'll be using... That's like a guy who come to a trackday with a big expensive car and no driving skill and claim that cars which have less power shouldn't be allowed to go around the track faster.

Just saying though, you'll do better if you are using a good hammer over a rock tied to a stick, just like someone with a faster car would at least have a better chance of beating someone who has a slower car in a race than if they were also in a slower car.

Mechs op?
Don't care, I suck with all of them. Tier 5 at heart!
