Hey ya'all, havn't played since late 2013 or so. New computer is almost built. My question is this:
"What can I expect from the game now as a Jenner-f pilot?"
Back when I stopped the big debate was about heat spikes for large groups of weapons, to give you an idea of what i missed.
And yes I am going through the forums looking for other insights as well. Just wanted to see what jumps into people minds.
Will be playing in cockpit, don't like what I have seen of the third person view so far.
If it helps some folks my K/d ranged from about .62 in the f (which I was using while I learned to play, so its been hard to fight back up.) to a little over .9 in the K.

Lots of changes since then. But hey, welcome back!!
Probably about the biggest thing is the clan invasion and FW.

A lot of mechs just got resized, and most of the Lights are a little bigger.
Ghost heat is still here, although they have started talking about replacing it with an energy draw in a month or two. For now the limit on Medium Lasers without heat penalty is still 5 at a time.
3rd person is rarely used by most people, there is a reason for this. You loose some of your cockpit displays in 3rd person as well as aiming arms separately and the probe can give away your position. On rare occasion I'll swap to 3rd person for a second or two to get a different view around me and then go back to cockpit view, but spend 99.99% of the time in cockpit.
Welcome back.

here are a few highlights
Heat Scale what you may know as Ghost Heat (the heat spike thing you mentioned) is finally due to be replaced over the next few months
Clan Mechs are now in game, they are fairly well balanced against IS Mechs.
Mechs have recently been rescaled so they should all be within 0.5% the same relative volume, which among other things means most Light Mechs including your Jenner got upscailed.
many Mechs how have Quirks, they provide improvements to each Mech, including things like extra armor/structure, agility, heat disipation, range and/or recycle time for a specific weapon or weapon type
the UI has been completely redesigned
Faction play includes 3 additional game modes, invasion, counter attack and scouting,
invasion is 12 players on a team and each player gets 4 Mechs, when 1 is destroyed you chose the next to use, the objective is to take oout or defend the orbital turret and its generators
counter attack is simular to invasin but the base has been taken and it s defences are offline, so the "attackers" job is to prevent the "defenders" from retaking the base bu destroying the mobile field base and having more survivors
scouting is a 4v4 game mode, where you cannot use heavy or assault Mechs, you run around the map capturing points then the attacking team wins if 1 player manages to extract, defending team can win by killing all attackers, the winning team keeps the points they earn.
the points are used to unlock advantaged for your team in invasion/counter attack modes including knowing what Mechs the enemy has, a satellite and if your team get past 90% of the available points a powerful artillery strike hitting the largest concentration of enemy Mechs every 4 minutes.

Nobody plays in 3rd person. They deliberately nerfed it to make it annoying enough to keep people in 1st person. 3rd person is basically just to see what your paint job or weapons look like.
I actually agree with the decision. Battletech has always been a simulation game, not an arcade shooter.

Oh, i did want to ask. I assume that that the hitboxes have been redone several times since I last played, has anyone seen an impact on side torso blowout rates in jenners? It seemed like the r/l ST was very hard to get a direct hit on so most pilots in jenners ran XL engines. Still true?

Jenners still have large CTs compared to the side torsos. The risk from running an XL is still considerably less than the risk of being slow in a Jenner with a STD engine. Most people just go for legs on Lights anyway.

Yea, I usually got legged more than anything else once I was spotted.

Though I expect you're already familiar with it I'd still like to point out Smurfy's Mechlab: http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/
Which is still a great tool for building any mech design you'd want, looking at stats from other mechs, and general stats like the aforementioned quirks.
For instance, it will tell you that your Jenner-F has: 10% faster firing laser weaponry (less beam duration). A 20% increase to its acceleration and deceleration. Has a 15% speed bonus to its turning. A 30% faster turning torso and an 18% increase in its torso yaw range.

@ snagadance
LOL, I managed to max out the jenner f before I left, but it seemed a heck of a lot more responsive then I remembered when I was bombing around the practice maps on my friends machine.
Of course his computer was 3 time faster then my old one too. Looks like I'm gonna have a lot of re-acclimation once i get my rig online.
