Of course this makes the opposite true as well. There's the possibility of cliques forming and roving bands of elitist a-holes "removing" new or less skilled players from their games. However, there's already a built in penalty of being a mech down for your match, and I'm certain that there's also going to be some sort of additional penalty for damage done to allies.
Aside from that, as others have mentioned, the current community seems to be filled with a bunch of stodgy ol' ******** who aren't going to let a bunch of upstarts ruin their fun, nor ruin the fun of genuine newby who might make something of his/herself simply because they're not quite as good as long-termers. Funny thing about PnP folks; they love to "share their wisdom" and coming from a environment where new players are slim to none, most of these guys are happy to teach.
In short, all that has to happen to keep the current community here is to keep from making a complete failure. If the game delivers 3/4 of what they claim it will be, these guys will stick around keep the weasels in check.

As to a toxic forums that hard to say yet. So far, for the most part, we seem to be having a pretty decent group of malcontents around.
I haven't really gotten into many games forum chats that much barring this and VGA Planets.

As for the real idiots that will inevitably show up, keep track of who they are and target 'em first. They'll rage, cry, claim everyone cheats because noone can top their "1337 skillz", etc... Which, honestly, I just find hilarious.

Any kind of cultural creation such as a forum, that is also in itself a cultural construct, must be in near-constant flux, to generate enough stimulation to retain the occasional dabbler as well as the frequent patron. It must also attract a constant stream of newly interested parties, to account for formerly interested parties losing interest, being unable to participate or - given a long enough time span - dying.
As such, and for such reasons, and with such precautions, and to such degrees, we must then ask how to accomplish what potential tasks that possibly lie ahead of us. On this subject matter, I can say nothing at this time, unfortunately, since I am under contract not to. This will expire in 2014, however, so perhaps we could approach this subject, broach this subject, and maybe even breach this subject, then.
What I can speak of, however, is how a good forum needs a good culture, and how that culture must be treated much like the culture of bacteria in a yogurt - gently and with compassion, then rough, then a little gentler and then a rough finish. That's the way to great yogurt and great online communities!
Happy holidays everyone!

What a ridiculous thing to say. I am certain that most of us - including PGI - welcome anyone that wants to join the fun, as long as they follow the rules like everybody else. That you would ever assume that the enormous player-base of League of Legends consists exclusively of people that conform to your narrow-minded stereotypes is a rather significant folly. To then fully folly further, and perceive yourself as somehow more desirable as a customer, than any random League of Legends player, based on an arbitrary set of criteria that you've made yourself - well, I don't know how to describe that in a way that won't get me banned.
Have you ever considered that others are easily able to interact with and appreciate the League of Legends community, because they don't try to hold them to some personal standard of behavior, but engage them to, you know, actually engage them? I have met many fantastic people in many online games, primarily through trying to actually communicate with them, instead of judging their types inferior. Hopefully you have too, and your post was just unfortunately worded, making it sound like you thought yourself superior to anyone. A critically self-reflective person like yourself would obviously not fall for such easily dismissed illusions, but I'll leave this post here just in case.
And in that unfortunate case, my advice: Snap out of yourself.

I’m calling
In a LRM strike
You should hear a warning
It’s dangerous
I’m pwning
There’s no escape
I can’t wait
I need acrit
PPC, give me it
Your legged now
I’m lovin’ it
Too high
I can't get a bead on you
I almost lost my head
Autocannon round and round and round
Flying past my viewport, jerk
With the smell of smoke in my nose
I hit the override
You're toxic I'm overheating
With a taste of a fired electronics
I’m addicted to mechs
Don’t you know that it's toxic
My coolant leaking from my vest
Don’t you know that it's toxic
It’s getting late
To give up my win
I took a sip
From my water tank
Slowly
My mech's turning slowly
Too high
I come down
It’s in the air
DFA
Can you feel me now
With my legs somewhere
in side my torso crits
It's toxic, a core breach that is
With a taste of a poison plasma
I’m cursing engine hits
Don’t you know that it's toxic
And I reach for the yellow handle
Don’t you know that life support is out
Don't you know that the canopy won't blow
With a searing bright flash
I'm on a ride
You're injured
With an arm missing now
I'm is should have read the sign
Keep your hands inside your ride
Amputee mechwarrior now
*******' Betty won't shut up now
Eject
Eject
Eject
At least though
I was deafened by the boom

Any kind of online gaming community will attract a very large amount of idiots, that will always be the case. The question that remains is how much you have to interact with them. In an RPG where you make your own guild and do crap with your own set party it's very easy, while the other end would be WoT where you can't do anything but random matches (Need T10 for clanwar + only few a week, companies are also limited to certain tiers and in those tiers only a few tanks will be accepted and still very few matches) so there is no acceptable way to avoid idiots.
It's the main reason I quit, the grind and money loss didn't really bother me since I had enough fun in my T8 where I could easily break even and never felt the need to drive the biggest tank around, but being stuffed in matches where I seem to be the only human player just got too much. People instantly charging into 5 enemies and calling the entire team noobs after dying in 30 seconds, multiple afkers every match, people hiding in the most remote spot to avoid getting hit, people defending the artillery by standing behind it you name it, it happened in WoT.
I know early on MW:O will also have only random matches, but I hope they'll implement the Community warfare quickly and we got a bit more control over who we fight with there, as I'm not looking forward to another game where I'm stuck with randoms all the time. With the community this game currently has that's no problem, but once it gets closer to your average online community I need something other than randoms.

Of course another big factor is marketing. If it gets marketed to an obnoxious community or pulls in ALOT of attention from random places the community will be sort of broken up and displaced. That's when you start getting tools and jerks.
