Morning folks, quick question. The Nova's are on c-bill sale. Are they worth picking up? I've been playing the hell out of the ShadowCat trial mech and I love it. Love the speed, the Jets, the lasers it comes with, just really good fun ! Before I spend my c-bills, which i was initially thinking of getting ShadowCats, I see the Nova is on sale, how does it compare? :)
(I also enjoyed the Stormcrow but is the streak build the only best way to build it? Not sure if it would be optimal in my pug solo queues.)

Thanks !

You have to watch your heat with most builds on the Nova. Other then that it is a really good mech and it is good for new players to save C-bills buying mechs when they are sale.

PS Streaks are sub-optimal, just learn to aim and use SRMs

Yep they are well worth it.

They have very low mounts and slower than a SHC. So need to be played quite different. I really enjoy getting into my NVAs, really well suited to QP. Not as good in Faction IMO, I prefer my SHC there.

For PUG QP drops in what is likely T5 for him, they would be exceptional as a great way to earn cbills FAST. That said get to T2+ and you're gonna find/need to not reply on it and I would then agree SRM/SPL once you can aim properly and you'll really hurt stuff. Or even get some LPL/ERM skirmish going

Understand that the Nova is slower than the Shadowcat. It is, infact, Timberwolf speed. But whereas the Shadowcat can only carry a few weapons, the Nova is one of the few mechs that can hit the 16 weapon hard limit PGI set up. (S body, Prime Arms.) Head on Over to Smurfy an check out what you can build with the Nova.

If you like what you see, then yeah. Grab it.

Nova was the second chassis I bought, and it's still a favourite of mine.

Aff. And objection. In CW, they are a blast if played correctly.

What's a good set-up for a Nova? I hear poptarting is a thing in one?

8SMPL 4 MG (1.5t ammo)
Murderous mech in the right hands, but needs to be played very cautious, because of heat and lacking speed compared to other mediums .
Plus-sided it got a plethora of JJ´s and is able to outmanouver most enemies if it´s used correctly .

Still a hard mech to make work, but once it clicks ...

Here's my build for this. This is a total brawler though. Which means, stay with the fatties and wait until they get into range. Then tear stuff up.

There are others who put 2 ER PPCS on the Nova and call it a day, but I find sniping really, really boring.

I kill myself winning the Crab and the Catapult in the event because i now need IS Mechs and the funkers put the other two of each that I need on sale. (which is really kind of cool)

Even with the sale, Stormcrow is the better buy.

Yeap, i love my Crows. I do wish they had a right torso with two missile slots and a right and left torso with two ballistic.....

But there is a reason no Mech is pefect, lol.

For most people, I would say you are right but I could never meld with the Stormcrow. I died a lot in the Nova too but eventually we came to an understanding and I am now slowly improving my KDR in her. Once you adapt and play to the Nova's strengths you will stop dying and do well in one.

hey Vodka, what I use on my nova is "just" 6 ml. it's now so small, that it can kill things nicely.

as for a stormcrow, I run mine with 2 LPL 2 ml (yes its for FW, yes it's a lil undergunned but i prefer the less heat) or 5 SRM 6 because that swarm is absolute madness :D

For a newbie? Nooo....the Nova is actually kind of difficult to play (broad silhouette, no Jump capability), and it is an energy specialist mech.

If you are a newbie you should be sticking to (cheaper) IS Chassis's. Catapult or Hunchback are both good. If you must go Clan, start with the Timberwolf.

Determine your playstyle before you go buying mechs. I would only recommend the Nova if you are in a Striker role. Or maybe an energy sniper. It will be awful at brawling or support.

I've been enjoying the stormcrow too! Feels odd not having jump jets though. Can you tell me what makes it a better choice? :)

Crows are great and fun, but the OP was a straightforward question with a straightforward answer: is the nova worth getting on sale if you're a rookie? Straightforward answer: YES.

I must wholeheartedly disagree with these statements. I can take down any assault in a direct brawl with my Nova build. I have in fact single-handedly taken down 2 and nearly killed a third on numerous occasions. You just need to play it smart. And, they are certainly NOT energy specialist builds. Just because they don't have missiles doesn't mean you can only run energy.

As a bit of anecdotal evidence, my very first drop in my Nova build, which means I had ZERO mech XP in it, I got 5 kills. The second drop, I got 8 kills. You just need to be patient with it and not get tunnel vision. Those MGs and small pulse lasers are a crit seeker's wet dream.

What weapon loadout do you run Mailin? Hug the cover and shoot the baddies? :)
