I'm a long time player of Mechwarrior, I started playing with Mechwarrior 2 Mercenaries. From there I moved on to Mechcommander and at that point I was a hardcore fan of MW universe. I guess this question is for the Devs, now that we have MW up and going is there any chance we see another mechcommander? The mechcommander series was by far my favorite, and I know there are a lot of other people feel the same. I also think a mechcommander setup with a F2P model would be able to work pretty well.

Any thoughts on this?

Mechwarrior: Tactics

Not a complete Mechcommander, but it should do. :P

Well, there is Mechwarrior Tactics.

It would be cool if this game has an integrated commander mode that turns the game into Mechcommander.

I think they only have friends and family beta at the moment.

Just checked the site out and read FAQ and everything, looks like this game is more closely related to the tabletop game, and players will move in turns, which I'm not really sure I would like. I was hoping to see something similar to the way the old mechcommander played. Like a age of empire and command and conquer style of RTS.

Thanks for the link though, glad to see other MW projects are in the works.

There is also the commander mode for this game. They haven't given us a ton of details, but it has different views for your pilot.

I want to see a game mode where it's say, 9 v 9. 8 mechwarriors a side, and one mechcommander. The commander gives waypoints for the troops to go to, targets enemies, and it basically integrates the fps with the rts. Of course, this would only be for pre-made teams like factions/clans/guilds/whatever, because doing this with a random team would probably get you some lone wolves who think they're all that and a bag of chips, who would ignore the commander's waypoints and lose matches for their team.

Idunno, I really think that would be fun.

I think this would be ideal. Or at least contract it out to another dev. They've already got all the art assets in place(or at least they will when it launches), I guess it would depend on whether CryEngine is flexible enough to handle a strategy oriented interface.

I don't think it would work as a F2P game though. Has there ever been a F2P RTS? Either way, I wouldn't be opposed to paying a one time fee for a new Mechcommander game.

Edit: I was talking about modding MWO to a MC game with NPC pilots and all that. I would be strongly opposed to a "commander mode" implemented into MWO. It just doesn't sound fun, and I think it will frustrate more people than it will entertain(commanders frustrated when players don't follow orders, players frustrated when commanders make bad choices, teams frustrated when one commander is better than another, etc).

If commander mode for MWO has a MechCommander-like view mode, with the ability to issue similar commands, I would love it! I don't think that is practical for an in-game mech pilot, though - even the company commander. In MechCommander the idea was you were back on the dropship, giving orders.

There is the Age of Empires online that's F2P, and for a while Company of Heroes was flirting with such an idea but got cancelled?

Be carefull when you point out the shoud-be-released MW:T. Unlike our beloved MW:O developers, these guys are tampering HEAVILY with TT rules. E.g.: no melee, no mechs falling down, very different turn-based model etc. After hearing this (especially "mechs falling down is a gamebreaking experience" ^_^ ) I'm super-disturbed about the game...

QFT! I swear their hunchback looks like the ugly love-child of a MWO Hunchback and a Dragon, but came out mutated with the AC20 on the wrong freaking shoulder!

Yeah, me too. In fact, I unsubscribed from their newsletters after the stuff in the last one. It is a great idea on the surface, but they had the rules for a turn-based game handed to them on a platter (they could have stuck with *exact* TT rules, or a simplification of them) and they are screwing around with it. Oh well, at least MW:O is looking *great* ^_^

Yea, I was super excited for about 5 minutes until I read it was turn based, would seem like it would be a much larger crowd that would want the traditional RTS style gameplay rather than turn based. Looks like my dreams of mechcommander 3 we continue to be a dream.
