I can say that ever since the "leaderboard" was added, the quality of competition and play overall has improved. This is a very good thing. Thanks PGI!

Strange, I don´t blame it on the leader board, but I have made the opposite experience. (Only talking about Solo queue now) Since the patch I am mostly matched with unitless players I have never heard of. Gameplay is accordingly.
To be honest I haven´t even cared to look at the board once, since I was levelling all the leftovers for the double XP event. I should do so next time I am online.

How the hell does the leaderboard change anything about the matches?

If you assume that people try harder, bring better mechs and finally l2p it would have an effect. I doubt itPosted Image

That's the OP's perception ... whether it is true or not is debatable.

When you make a leaderboard where the bulk of the top ranked players have a minimal number of matches, it is essentially useless.

Just replicate what is done in event leaderboards and take the scores from the 10 best games and aggregate it. That at least would be more meaningful than the way it is currently.

That would assume that people who would give a crap about stats were not already applying themselves.

We just had a patch that rescaled every mech and added communication tools. Yet somehow the matches feel different because of an out of match spreadsheet?

1. Minimum of 100 games played for a player to show up on the leaderboard.

No. Mimimum of 100 games to be ranked on the leaderboard. Displayed still, even with 1 game.

View PostBlue Pheonix, on 27 June 2016 - 06:01 PM, said:

2. Display tier level next to players name with rankings

Irrelevant because current tiers themselves mean nothing. #expbar

View PostBlue Pheonix, on 27 June 2016 - 06:01 PM, said:

3. Divide the rankings up based on tier level

Still irrelevant because different tiers play in same matches. If T1's only played vs T1's, T2's only vs T2's and so on then maybe.

4. Divide the rankings by both Solo PUG and group PUG.

Yes.

5. Show the mech most used by pilot in their respective weight class

Good idea. Yes.

6. Do not have "cash only" mechs stats show up on the leaderboard.

No.

7. Show average lance position
8. Show average team position

You mean how well a person performed compared to his lance/team? Well it says nothing about his overall performance so, no. Plus, lances get swapped all the time in the first place.

I edited idea #5 in the OP.

I've thought about it and agree "Cash only mechs" stats should show up on the leaderboard but only if the rest of the chassis is available for C-bills (for example the Oxide). However, whole chassis that are currently "cash only" like the Kodiak, should not count towards a players stats on the leaderboard when played until at least some of the mechs on this chassis become available for C-Bills. See the revised idea #5 for my reason why.

While there are some who somehow slip through the cracks and make lower tiers and there are some just poorly played games at any tier, for those who say competition does not get better overall (from more people having meta mechs/gear and way more experience playing many more games) at lower tiers (1 and 2) and saying "tiers do not matter", PGI please put me back in tier 5 and let me keep all my mechs/weapons/gear! Please. Pretty please with sugar on top? =p

Won't need one if some of these guys get their way - just don't play the 60-100 match minimum number of games per month that people are tossing around. Posted Image
Not per month, that's silly. But 50+ to be shown on the leaderboard at all? I support that, even as a guy who plays <10 drops a week.

It stops the boards from being filled by guys with just 1-3 good matches and nothing else.

Hopefully the next patch will have some of these ideas implemented

Why wouldn't one want to be on the leaderboards or have their tier displayed?

like your tier is displayed? Posted Image

And does leaderboard REALLY do anything to improve play?

People already were puckering up and hiding trying to protect KDr.... now that it's all public, these yutzes will probably just pucker harder.... which is ironic since hide and peek is more likely to harm your stat than help, long run.

How many of you think that these ideas will be implemented in the patch tomorrow?

Is it okay if I just don't care about leaderboards? Posted Image

I mean, I just want to run around in big stompy mechs and shoot pew pew and boom boom and help my team succeed through success. I'm never gonna be a champion anything and I'm okay with that- "good enough" is good enough for me.

There's generally two opposing camps:

1. Leaderboards will get mediocre pilots to put effort into doing better so that they rank higher on the boards.

2. Leaderboards will get selfish pilots to abandon teamplay in order to boost their own stats so that they rank higher.

If PGI keeps the leaderboard strongly "pay to win" I may quit MechWarrior Online entirely.

Quick Play Leaderboard Changes

Some changes are being made to the Quick Play Leaderboards in this patch.
• Quick Play Leaderboards now operate on a 'Season' system. The current Season can be seen at the top of the Leaderboard screen. The scheduled end date of the current Season is also presented there.
• If a match concludes after a new Quick Play Leaderboard Season has begun, the results of that match will contribute to the new Season.
• The default metric by which the Quick Play Leaderboard is sorted is now by Total Wins, rather than Average Match Score.

These are obviously very important, much needed and much asked for changes.
So to answer your question ... none.

I wonder where is that guy who claims that devs read their own official forums ...

Yeah, its a shame.

Just downloaded and tried the game after this patch. No changes that I and others have been asking for. It looks to just be a "band-aid fix" by changing the default metric (in this case - number of wins) that shows up when you first bring up leader boards.
