After the great rescale, I was thinking of buying a couple of Catapults because they are now cute and all but I don't want to buy more mechbays. Eyeing my hangar, I have this (L)oyalty Nova which had been sitting in the garage collecting dust because I couldn't make a build I like and it's slow-ish for a medium. I thought why don't just take it out for a spin now that it has been buffed? I tried various combo of small and medium lazor builds and it performed surprisingly decent!

It must be because of those Clan Small Lasers - they are such a good weapon! Oh and the 'Mech mounts five of the bestest Jump Jets (Class IV in case you are wondering Posted Image).

If this of any indication, I guess the upcoming Viper would be decent too - moreover if it receives some nice positive quirks.

It's been decent for a few months now

In fact, the most recent quirk pass, I daresay, nerfed it. It cut down on build viability without also making sacrifices (IE, Poptart lost either high mounts, heat gen, or 2 tons of heatsinks (to shield the now needed arms))

Hmm interesting. I didn't pay attention to its quirks.

For its size, yes, it's hellva lot better than its ever been, from what I've seen.

Nerf it? Maybe, but do it accordingly as they say, you don't want to take too much off of the almost perfect slate.

Ayup, CERSL and CERML builds are back in action in full, and the PPC Nova has got a bit of a bump with its downsize.

Finally had a reason to buy another two novas in order to master my (L).

Been rocking it with the 3E pulse laser arms and prime ST for months now. 6xMPlas. Before, it was punchy but a huge target. Now it's still punchy, but can actually distribute the damage it receives far better, plus can actually use terrain to hide itself. It's plenty dangerous, from an offensive standpoint, but was too easy to hit for how slow and light it was. Now? Now it feels good.

*Shivers* The stock build is unbearable and hard to work with. if it had one more M hardpoint, I'd use it all the time.

I tried making that build (6x cMPL) in the mechlab but, the 'Mech doesn't have enough free tonnage to mount enough DHS so it's hotter than I like. It's now exclusively rocking a ton of small lasers and maybe a couple of ERMLs or MGs sometimes depending on my mood.

Well I just tried the Nova I've had forever but I've never used. I'll agree it's surprisingly decent.

I run mine with 5 spl in the left arm and 3 mpl in the left. Cool enough to alpha a few times if necessary. Those big bundles of spls open up lights and mediums quickly, that's for sure.

Are you saying one more as in two? Or Three?

There is a pods to have 2 missile slots on a nova.

Funny Build: 4x CERML, 2x SSRM6 and 2x MG. About 5 tons left for ammo/DHS to suit.

Then you find a cicada or some other <45 ton enemy and go to town. Extra points if you also include a flamer

It's got some great pulse laser heat quirks, I don't see how you're overheating with 6 mpl. I still favor 12spl which puts out 144 damage before it redlines. Thing is wicked, and it doesn't get the spl quirks from the 3 energy arms. I still think the Stormcrow beats it though. 4mpl 6spl and faster is so much more versatile. So I normally stick to PPCs with my Loyalty Nova.

It has always been. Especially with 12 SL and 4 MG.

Best to avoid the MGs entirely

They literally make your build worse, in the face time and lacking heatsinks/TC/QUIRKS
You lose 8% heat

I have 10 ERSL currently, and that does me plenty well considering my yardstick is the venerable 6 ML hunchy

I suppose i could trade out a DHS for an extra pair, but I feel that I have a good balance for now

The way I see it, that mech needs to do as much damage as quickly as possible. You still get 4 shots off with 12 smalls, you might as well have that extra 5 damage per shot. You won't miss a single heatsink. You should really try the 12 small pulse build too, it doesn't cool of as quickly but it generates considerably less heat and has a much higher dps.
