One of the players on TheKongLords, Karnwield, has been ordered by his country's government to join the service. He was the appropriate age but was not made aware of his conscription until very recently. This puts us at a distinct disadvantage. Is there any way we can replace this player in our roster? Random acts of god and government are not something we are able to plan for.

Good thing you signed up with the full allotted 12 members then. This way you can easily replace him with the extras and still have 3 subs left.

First of all, nobody on our roster is an "extra". We're all part of the team. But it is true, we do thankfully have 3 "extra" players left after this. Regardless though my point stands, a player has been removed from our pool due to an unforeseen circumstance and it has made the already narrow scheduling requirements of this tournament even tighter. With the predicted upcoming instability of the Eurozone even more players may be forced to leave for similar reasons. Can nothing be done?

Hey we all have RL issues too, so if your alleged conscription merits an addition, so would every other teams' various issues.

Not saying that you should not be allowed to do so btw, merely that allowing your team to do so will open the flood gates tournament wide.

I dont envy your position in having to run the rest of the Tournament with the other 11 Team member
The thing is its always "unforeseen circumstances". so far there have been no changes to rosters, and after almost have the tournament has been played that´s unlikely to change.

though i have to admit that predicting major tournament problems due to instability of the eurozone and mass conscription is a bit far fetched^^.

And suddenly every team has an act of God or government and needs roster reinforcements.

Of course I don't know the specifics in this case but to me it seems really weird, and most likely the fault of the person himself.

Generally you know 6 months MINIMUM in advance when and where you will serve. In my case I knew 2,5 years in advance and then applied for postponement for another 6 monts which was granted, as it is in 99% of cases if you have an actual reason and apply in time.

Then if it's a recap training, a new law was passed recently that allows recalling of reserves very quickly, but even then it's a week's absence at most.

Also, if the tournament is that important to him, he could just walk in and tell the officers that he will be applying for civilian service instead, then he will be released after one night at most.

Am I the only one who appreciates the potential humor in this? While I wish your teammate the best of luck in the military and do hope that your situation is resolved amicably, I can't help but imagine somebody in their 20's attempting to refuse military service or conscription on the grounds that they have a video game tournament to attend.

I guess they still have a conscript army and everyone if not son of a lawyer or politic gets to spend a year int the Army
best luck to him...military service is a good experience of life...in a country that is not at War...he gets to play CS everyday with 0 ping and 120 solid FPS...

You are correct, Sir - but ofc even the sons of lawyers and politicians are called up. People just get their basic training and some specialist training, so they serve from 6 months up to a year if they're sent to leadership training. It's not exactly hard to get out either, but many Finns would be ashamed at doing so-called Civilian Service or faking to get medical/psychological excemption. Besides, especially the Reserve Officer training is often seen as a good thing to have if you want to get some nice position as a big kahuna in a company.

edit: and someone who is already accepted to a University etc can easily get excempted for several years.

Back in the 90's my favorite NHL Hockey team had to wait a year to get their top draft pick to come over from finnland because he needed to do his Military service. :) If my country had the Red Army Russian federation armed forces next door, we'd probably do compulsory military service too... ;) /off topic

Best of luck to your conscripted teamate and the remaining eleven.

No.

Just imagine him telling the conscription office that he can't perform his duty with this army because he has already been conscripted by a virtual army.

Just a second, if you don't have "extra players" what do you do with the 3 players not playing? are they the fluffers?
What is the point of having extra registrants if not to step up when an opening arises. It sounds like accommodations were made for likely event that a player cannot participate.

I think you are over reacting if you are worried about 1 man down.

We are currently running on 9 players.

We signed up for 12, 11 accepted before the deadline (The 12th one we shot)

The 11th has been a no show.

Just recently an active member has lost his job, his house and all internet. (All in the same week!) We are now running on 9 men, and others know that they have potential RL interferences coming our way. So forgive us to being rather unsympathetic to your man being called up. We are doing the best we can - we'd prefer to fight a man or two down rather than forfeit but rules won't allow it.

I agree that PGI was incredibly short sighted - either teams should have been able to be bigger so have a greater pool to call upon or substitutions allowed. We aren't pro gamers and real life happens (A lot to our team!)

They should open up registration again and allow us another 5 players.

It's still a big pain rescheduling all the time.
