You see the purple smoke, you run away with 80 kmh, you die 1 shot in a fresh mech.

Yep, nerfed.

The only actual information about the "nerf" that I recall is that due to some old code, it wasn't working how they intended it to, and it was fixed. Russ declined to give any information about what behavior was not intended, he just said we shouldn't be seeing it anymore. Posted Image

I believe the nerf was so that the Long Tom damage doesn't critical hit.

..it only does 1,600 over your whole mech. We couldn't let that be some ridiculous number like 2,000 damage..

Yeah it didnt always kill anyone in the splash area, maybe this was it...
I usually stay away from planets with long tom but last match they just got it while the match was running and it always killed everyone in the area.

We've followed up with QA and Engineering; the Long Tom code has not changed since the last adjustments made in the May 17th patch.

The amount of Damage Dealt to a component from a explosion is now based on that components distance from the explosion, along with the amount of surface area exposed to it. The amount of damage dealt decreases at a logarithmic rate.

• Explosions no longer deal Critical Damage.
• Long Tom Strike: Maximum amount of Damage that can be dealt to a single 'Mech is now 1650 DMG (150 DMG per Component).
• Long Tom Strike: Blast radius is 300m.

Destruction is still a possibility when you're located at the epicenter of the Long Tom explosion, but falls off at a logarithmic rate.

Oops, I was wrong.. It's 1650 damage per mech, not 1600.

Death rains in a 600 diameter circle around the drop. That's ~ five and a half entire football fields of dead mechs.

Working as intended.. if you intend on driving players away from your game.

Well Done PGI

you have broken Cw for a lot of people with this longtom airstrikes, etc killing mechs with one shot , I just played a match today where 4 mechs were killed in one go before they got anywhere near the gates , so whats the point of playing as the odd's are stacked up against you. I have been with you guys since day one and i hate to say this but you are making the game worse and very frustrating maybe one more reason why people play quick play instead of C.W , as for me i will never play it again in this form as its just not any fun.

So... as a old time regular who after a break is returning to faction battles for this event...

Wow. Used to do a fair bit of faction play, saw this event and was looking forward to it. Did a few scouting matches, thought yeah this is cool, lets see how it impacts on invasion mode. First game, hardly had to wait, feeling positive about all this and... Long Tom was killing 3-4 people each time. I managed to avoid it (purely by luck) until my last mech. I think in total it took out about 15 mechs, instant kills. Lots of unhappy people talking on comms. Not a good advert for the mode.

Nah, I'll pass on invasion for now. Nice idea having the scouting influence invasion, but badly implemented. One shotting should never happen in any circumstance (aside from an Alpha up the back passage). Regardless of purple smoke and a chance of avoiding, it just negates fun. Admittedly it was kinda funny, but not in a good way, more at the ridiculousness of it.

Besides that the logarithmic scale must be a lie or misscalculation. I saw the purple smoke near my feet instantly ran with a freshly dropped Grasshopper 84kph and got instakilled.

Long Tom is stupid as it is now. I will not be playing faction play any more as long as it is live in game in it's current state EVENT OR NOT. I don't play MWO to be auto killed 4 times an invasion by something I have 0 chance to defend against and that has happened to me three time now.

It boggles my mind that someone could play this and think it is fun, fair or reasonable.

If you spread out you get picked off one by one by the concentrated enemy. If you brawl they kill their own people to kill you since in the end they still FAR outkill you using the arty.

IIRC in table top the Long Tom took game TURNS to arrive on the map and did about 40 damage in 5 point chunks to your mech. That is like being hit with 2 Maxed out LRM 20 strikes. It was nasty but had defenses agaisnt it. You had a decent chance of running out of the AOE when it was called.

I was in a vindicator doing 110+ KPH while max jumping and was nowhere near the drop point. Still got auto killed. And cover seem to do nothing to stop it. Long Tom is not artillery it is a mini nuke apparently.

A travesty.

Just answered a call to arms and went with a mixed pug group. Half of them without a unit tag.

First wave we gathered, Long Tom fired, we tried to disperse, Long Tom killed 4 undamaged assaults (King Crab, Mauler, 2xAtlas). It continued like this. I guess from the 48 mechs Long Tom killed like 40.

Comments from the players:

"This is my last faction play ever"
"Goodbye to faction play"
"I will never play this mode again"
etc.

If you want to kill this game mode, Long Tom is the answer!
If you want to discourage new players, Long Tom is the answer!
If you want to shrink the playerbase, Long Tom is the answer!

Did they forget a decimal point?

Is this QA and engineering the same ones that checked out the minimap/dorito fiasco and gave it a big old stamp of approval?

It used to a part of something called Faction Play or by the old ones as Community Warfare. It had a lot to do with waiting if I remember correctly.

Then Solaris arrived and saved us all from computer controlled instant death mechanics.

...And then I woke up.

300 Meter RADIUS? So a circle MORE than 6 American foot ball fields wide? 150 damage per component?

Are you designers doing drugs? Seriously how could you possibly think this was good?

Long tom AoE was reduced slightly. they didn't down the damage like they were suppose to though so no it is still broken as all hell.
