So after getting a Nova in Scouting event I figured maybe I'll keep it

But I gotta ask

Did someone try the 3 AMS + AMS quirks + AMS overload?

With 20% ams fire rate quirks and ~30% AMS dps from the module, you effectively end up with 4.68 worth of AMS

How much damage would this mitigate from say a 4 XSRM4 salvo?

1 AMS negates LRM5, but lrms are slower, so has anyone made tests?

Also - old topics might be very outdated, since AMS overload module works way differently now and is much more powerful

Not sure, but I've been messing about with a 3xAMS Kitfox and AMS Overload, and I took on a 6x6SSRM Stormcrow and won yesterday, with plenty of armour left over afterwards.

But that's just one case. It was pretty clear though that 2x20LRM defeats 3xAMS by about 50%. LRM5/10 streamboats were completely neutered even with minimal exposure to the AMS fire.

Also, range is a big issue, with the scrow it was tough to try to keep the range so that my AMS had time to work, but the results from 125m would be wildly different from those at 30m facehugging distance.

Yeah range is a factor I'm sure but that's still pretty neat, especially since Kit Fox is rather under gunned,so taking on a Crow is impressive, Nova on the other hand is a monster in offense, so I guess it would rip apart a Crow or a Griffin no problem

This is the big deciding factor. The largest limitation for AMS vs SRM/SSRM is the range of engagement.

The Kitfox is 3xCMPL, 4xCMG. It was probably slightly fresher than the Scrow, and he also took fire from a light that arrived towards the end of our fight, so I can't claim pilot skill. But I deliberately engaged him alone purely out of curiosity about how an AMS would fare against an SSRM boat. Sadly it was the only opportunity I got from quite a few matches.

Also, whoever is engaging an SSRM boat with me would also be shielded by my AMS, probably even better than I would be if I'm close in to the boat.

Any decent player using SRMs / SSRMs will ...
1. Boat loads of them.
2. Facehug you.
3. Alphastrike.

1. and 3. mean that no matter how much AMS you bring he'll have too many missiles flying at you at the same time for it to matter.
2. means that the distance will be too short and AMS won't have the time to shoot anything down.

The only thing that AMS is really viable for is shooting down streams of LRM5s, but thats about it.

Facehugging a Nova is suicide for any light/medium mech and a sizeable portion of heavies, if it packs 12 cspules it can shred a crow without going anywhere near overheat

^These guys made an LRM test, even an LRM20 gets shredded before even a single rocket lands, so basically 3 AMS+overload negate any stream, you can only salvo at them
