I had previously left FP following a few games of the Invasion game mode (which seemed like boring, hide and poke battles). So despite scouting arriving a few months back I had never played it.
Now that a new Nova was on offer (I have a loyalty variant sitting untouched in the hangar) I thought I'd have a go. Thoroughly enjoyed it. The maps work for a small lance of 4 mechs, roaming across from point to point, with an inevitable clash occurring wherever (instead of the usual hotspots). Either in a light mech and capping as much as possible or a SCR cruising for a fight, it was good fun.
I did not play as IS - using a SCR, HBK-IIC-A (which I elited and mastered during the event), and an ACH, I felt things were faaaiirly balanced (though admittedly, only if the IS packed a few ECM griffins able to close distance with cover, otherwise it was a duck shoot). The mode does still favour bringing 55T brawlers to mess stuff up first and capture intel second.
The comms, banter and mood of the games was substantially better than QP. So, in all, thanks for a good weekend of gaming!

Thoroughly Enjoyed My Time Scouting This Weekend

As you said "....did not play as IS - using a SCR, HBK-IIC-A (which I elited and mastered during the event), and an ACH..." I thought...yea everyone who likes cheese mode will surely enjoy the hell out of this.
And there realy is nothing balanced about this. If you would have added a Nova and a Jenner IIC, I still would lough hystericaly about: "...I felt things were faaaiirly balanced..."
So what exactly is blanced about a game mode where one side has exactly one chassis that has a remote chance for success ?
Balanced == "beeing able to decide how often and how hard I will hit kick or what ever my bound and gagged enemy in his face or crotch"
Thats realy like posting "GG close" into Allchat after steamroling an enemy team 12:0 in under 5 mins

Scouting was pretty good, invasion was a mess.
It was fairly interesting how some of the other groups were trying out different setups to try to counter our partybacks.

As I said Basilisk, "fairly" balanced, not completely balanced. This game is not completely balanced.
55T mechs will dominate the game mode - everyone knows this. If the IS brought their top toys with them, it was balanced. but bringing an unbalanced mech and then complaining that is unbalanced is somewhat asinine, no? There were certainly options - griffins, hunchbacks (as pointed out above), wolverines, cents or speed mechs like locusts or jenners. Many groups of IS with these wrecked the teams I was on. And as above, mostly I was in a HBK-IIC - or is that too imba against your STD engine Urbie

When both teams showed up with comparable tonnage and builds, it was all down to teamwork, and how the first contact went. If someone ran solo into a group of 4, or tried to brawl against a 20t advantage, or didn't group up to fight, or brought a trial mech, then it didn't go well for their team.
Trial mechs shouldn't even be allowed in scouting missions

Trial 'Mechs shouldn't be allowed into FP. Wasn't the whole point of FP to be an end game content?
As to OP I enjoyed it aswell, was on FRR, I dusted off my Grid Iron after a long long time with AC/20 and 3 flamers and while I didn't get a lot of damage dealt, I was able to shut down splat-crows, streak-crows <insert weapon>-crows and disable them quite quickly (well mostly my teammates)
