You can change sides between Clan and IS.
Create your own unit and make a mercenary contract on which you want to play.
If you don`t like it anymore, disband the unit and create it again. Now you can make a new contract.

You have a seven day penalty CD on doing that. That is part of the reason why merge are so popular, move between the factions with ease.

You can switch but don't do it in an event that lasts a week or less. There is a 7 day penalty on that. Also PGI likes to put you over a barrel if you break contract. 1st 10 matches won't reward you with any loyalty points. The 7 day penalty from leaving a faction. Don't think you can even play CW for those 7 days. Also they rip away 25% of your total loyalty points.

So if you where away for a bit and had 500,000 faction points in say Steiner and then left before Phase 3. Then came back and joined Steiner again for the CW event and pulled in another 15,000 faction points for a total of 515,000 points. if you decide to leave Steiner again. PGI will take 25% of that total and you will lose 128,750 Steiner Faction points. Really? Why not 25% of the 15,000 the player earned during this contract period?

What is the point of joining any faction If you are penalized this hard. I am a casual CW player. Usually only play during these events when the population is high enough to make it worth it. I will not handcuff myself to any one faction in order to avoid this kind of penalty. This only hurts the more casual fan of MWO.

I don't know. Am I being ridiculous here? Are the penalization justified for breaking contracts? Again not a hardcore CW player.
Would love to have CW be where the core population was found in MWO and quick matches be the side game.

Totally agree it's ridiculous.

I'm nearly merc rank 6, once I get to 10... Do I try farm mechbays? I've got Phase 2 points across a lot of factions, varying ranks... So if I did go loyalist it'd be a pretty big commitment and the loss each move (if I didn't hit Max rank) would hurt bad.

That's why I'm not switching factions. I'm lore wise a Jade Falcon but sometimes I feel like to try the IS side but with these penalties? Hell no.

There's NO penalities if you're a 1 man merc unit. Disband the unit and create another one (also with the same name) and get a new contract.
No penalities in this case.

Honestly if they divorced left bags from the loyalty tree and simply set an original point and multiplied the next bag by 4 times the number of points to infinity they would have an obtainable ( though painful) reward for loyalists to infinity.
