I think this is a harmless enough question that you can safely take it to Russ on Twitter and get an answer.

What baffles me is why they cant put out all possible trial mechs at once, instead of having to wait for the next swapparo?

New IS pilots got the shaft with this set. Especially with the mediums.

Define possible. They could make every mech a trial mech if they wanted.

Particularly true if a new pilot is trying to do CW. Med/light Trial mechs for IS are pretty bad compared to clans, LCT-1E being a slight exception I guess.

I was more worried about the IS Trial mechs in the assault class. Let's see... i can either choose... a 3LPL Awesome or... a 3 LPL battlemaster. Such variety!

Well, choose the AWS if you identify as a barn door. I used the BLR to great success in CW last night, dead arms for shielding and a decent alpha. Sure it's not fun, but they're trial mechs and at least the -2C mod is viable.

Agreed tho, there should be some differentiation across the builds available for trial use.

Combine the terrible choices we have with a motivation for brand new players to "Play scouting! Win free mechs!" and you wind up with the disaster of Treb LRMboats in 4v4. Not really their fault though, should they have gone with the worst mech in the game instead? Or perhaps, the Locust, and get 1 shot by the clan's most popular scouting build.

It's not an IS vs Clans are OP type discussion, it's just that the trial mechs we've had for what seems like almost half a year that "change regularly" according to the tooltips, really really blow for the game mode PGI wants more people to play. Fantastic way to drive new players away.
