Since each planet would have different abilities, it could determine what type of help players can get and the missions that could ensue.There could be Industrial Planets so player could buy produced mechs and equipment, HPG planets so players could see other planets under attack, or even planets with LosTech to gain more money; anything could work. This could be a good way to strengthen faction's resources.

I think something along these lines was (is?) planned for the Community Warfare aspect of MW:O - but that whole section has been delayed a bit, to allow core gameplay to be perfected by launch. I am excited to see what the Devs come up with for this, and certainly they seem to be taking into account that the various planets controlled by each faction could give some benefits... so that taking planets actually confers a small boost, making it a goal worth fighting for

One type of planet or heavenly bodies you didn't specifically mention. Those without air. While not in large supply or demand these bodies do have a spot in our universe. Some were mining facilities and occasionally a hidden military installation. Playing on this balls of clay might produce some very fun battles.
