Thank Lord Alex that the Linebacker does not look like the TRO art.

Maybe in the 80s American football linebackers were 5'10" but these days NFL Linebackers are 6'3" and can run down a lot of running backs. Evolution is good.

I like the MWO Linebacker and I think it looks the part. Nice interpretation as usual from Alex and PGI.

Do you really ask this?
Isn't the answer more than obvious?

In the original (sarna) image, the linebacker is SO broad, it couldn't walk at all or maybe like a triple drunk at best.

It's one thing to be a naiv BT artist, drawing some nonsense how he/she thinks it looks cool, but it's a completely different story to get a form that can actually walk.

So broad mechs like the Nova which has the same form factor as the Linebacker, PGI can't pull it off can they? I mean just look at the Nova, its a squat mech and they couldn't put it in the game could they /SARCASM INTENDED.

Noting, of course, that the Nova in MWO is easily 75-100% taller than in TT, just like the Ebon Jag and Linebacker. Not to mention it got incredibly FAT if we're judging against the original art for the mech.

You know, speaking of football... how is Linebacker even an appropriate name? Wouldn't Running Back make more sense? Or something that evokes the feeling of a unit designed to rush through an opposing enemy force, rather than a big fatty designed to hold it back.

You think the nerds who came up with robot names and designs for Battletech ever watched football? Let alone played it and understand the positions? Posted Image

Perhaps 31st century football is played differently? I dunno. The NFL has been trying to get rid of extra-point kicks. Maybe in football of the future, noone will be allowed to go after the quarterback, and any player will be eligible to carry the ball - freeing the offensive and defensive lines to move the ball themselves. This would probably let linebackers be formidable rushers and give the Linebacker a namesake.

You know... creating lore for such an inappropriate name.

Am i the only one thinking the people complaining about this Mech's height would have been the very same complaining that it is a damn barn-door-sucking-damages too large for it's tonnage if it was closer to the original Art?

So, you wanted a Clan Awesome?

Linebackers are typically the "destroyers" and the meanest guys on the field. They are lean and mean.

Most running backs (with the possible exception of fullbacks) attempt to avoid contact by dodging and juking their way around the fatties.

At least a couple of Clans played American rules football as a past time in BT lore.

I have a feeling it will be more like the Catapult in size than the Hellbringer or the Ebon Jaguar. Actually I think it will be better than the EBJ in some ways down the line. I will explain; the EBJ in theory will have more free tonnage and space for more weapons yes, but when the patch comes for the new heat scale system and power draw system the less tonnage and space that the Linebacker will be less of a hindrance when trying to make and use a heat eff. build.

Both EBJ and Linebacker have high weapon mounts, both have similar build possibilities (minus the fact that the EBJ can carry more), but the Linebacker will be faster. I am very interested in what this mech will look like and how it will play. This is why it is the only mech pack I purchased this year so far.

Maybe there are in-game issues with shorter but faster moving legs?

The chicken-leg mechs in MWO tend to have extremely similar leg length and proportions, which leads me to believe this.

Either way, I hope they can fix this. Maybe make the legs wider, sit the torso lower (between the top of the legs?) and make it more squat.

The rest of the mech is beautiful, but the legs are really very odd looking and out of place.
