Dires and Crabs are tough right now mainly because of the power creep in pay to win. Still do Ok with them.

If you buy a mech in MC buy one you like instead of the one you assured to kill with it. No skill in buying the most powerful flavor of the month.

Just good common sense and some accountability to play at your best to help your team mates. Playing sports in bare feet on mud is fun, it is just not as effective as wearing cleats if others have that option.

Stalkers are just good with a decent range of builds, but they are easier to get if you use the premium time from the kodiak package and sell off 1-2 of the 400xls and maybe the KDK1 chassis after mastering.

Any of the 100 tonners are going to be fairly capable in both of those departments, but mechs like the Dire Wolf, King Crab and Kodiak are going to excel at delivering damage. The Atlas with all its structure quirks and whatnot is going to do better at soaking.

That said, there are plenty of decent under 100 ton assaults, I like Maulers and Executioners personally. I hear good things about Banshees, but mostly as laser vomit platforms which really isn't my thing. Stalkers are a solid old stand by assault.

I like Warhawks but those are kind of niche. Highlander IICs are OK, but they aren't probably the best as an introductory assault.

Anyway the 100 tonners I mentioned would be where I'd start, I wouldn't try anything else until you get a good feel for those.

Only Assaults worth it right now are Atlas, Mauler and Kodiak. Everything else is a waste or has been surpassed by power creep.

So if you are going to get an atlas my suggestion is make sure you are a brawler or assault type of player but i guess that you could make atlas a sniper but it is not recommended for sniper builds but if your a brawler or assault type of player in mwo when you get the atlas.

What assault mechs are worth having?

Kodiak
Direwolf
Marauder IIC
Executioner

Inner Sphere:
Atlas
King Crab
Mauler
Battlemaster
Stalker
Awesome

You could also throw in Gargoyle for the Clan but that is debatable just like the Awesome for Inner Sphere.

all IS assaults suck EXE and the KDKs are good

every time I see an Atlas it has LRMs on it

Ignore the Kodiak-3 because too many people already run that mech,
nothing but meta trash on it.

Run the other KDK's instead.

IS Battlemaster is good
IS Banshee is good
Clan Executioner is good
Clan Gargoyle is good
Clan Kodiak is good except the KDK-3 which is better than good in the wrong ways.
IS Cyclops is ok
IS Mauler is ok
IS King Crab is ok
IS Stalker is ok
IS Awesome is ok
IS/Clan Highlander/IIC is ok
Clan Warhawk is ok

Otherwise, KDK-3, no contest. I'd also suggest an Atlas-DDC for its Spookyness.
