I poptart in several mechs already. Then again I always equip every darn JJ I can. Screw that meta single JJ crap.

Poptarting is still a thing. Just on different mechs. Gotta adapt.

Its not removed.

Its there and its lethal in the right hands and with the right mechs.

And there's a number of mechs that allow you to poptart your enemies into the ground from where they shall never rise again ^^.

Popart is very much alive and kicking ***.

I understand the "no poptart" for Assaults but the mega JJ nerf that happened a long time ago totally broke the 2 Mechs that could use them: Victor and Highlander. Now you don't see any of them, ever.
On top of that, Class-I JJets weight 2 efing tons each! You can literally waste 8 tons on a Mech for nothing! That's amazing!

Those two Assault Mechs were problematic at the time, but now? When quad ac10s Clans and quad ac5s IS roam the fields? Not so much.

I really like your idea of linking JJ power to Engine's size. I see one issue, though: i think JJ should give some kind of evasion/agility tool to a Mech, which should be even more crucial for a Mech with a slow engine.
But if my Victor with 360XLs can fly like they used to, you have my vote.

i dont see victors and highlander as being a big pop tart threat. they kind of have the mixed build philosophy around them that doesnt make them boating candidates. you might stick some uac5s and ppcs on a victory and maybe have a 30 point ppfld to deal with, which is about the maximum i want to put up with from a poptart mech. especially when you consider its not going to be sustained fire either. neither have a lot of hardpoint inflation that could be exploited for some serious cheese builds.

so yea throw in the engine supercharged jjs, maybe adjust engine caps and jet capacity according to hardpoint inflation/boatability (especially with ppfld weapons). you might make the amount of boost to the jets different for each jet class. possibly giving the class 2s a bigger boost from the engine. be a little bit selective with those and you might be able to bring balance to the jets once and for all.

Who knows, 2 Gauss + ERPPC Night Gyr might end up being a decent poptart.

I bought it to dream of this if nothing else. We will see how terribad its JJ's are, i am also in the camp of letting select mechs bring back poptarting to the game.

4 of Class III JJs would be just OK. You can clear the Canyon walls pretty easily with one jump. They aren't Class IV though so don't expect much for poptarting (coupled with the Gyr's slow-ish speed)..

IMO, poptarts and LRMs need to be just as viable as a Heavy/Assault brawler or a laser vomit Light.

I wonder if switching the JJ's back to their pre-nerf values would impact the meta.

Considering a 30 dmg PPA with two PPC's and AC5's was ruling the roost back then, compared to our pulse and C-UAC10's now. Not exactly ideal jump sniping weaponry. Although the balance could be tipped too much toward C-ERPPC and gauss builds I suppose.

Either way, hover jets need to go. So boring and impractical. I want to dust off my Victors and Highlanders.
