Is this really a MWO specific problem, or is this just the reality of gaming in general?
Gamer meets game, gamer falls in love with game, game gets old, gamer moves on.

Obviously it's not a MWO specific problem, but a "declining playerbase interest" type of deal.

What used to be "Patch Day Everyone!" with a pretty decent chunk of players on now is more like... "Patch Day... sigh" with few players on, with "at most" a 12 man for coms for a drop in the new patch (realistically like 4-6, yet that's still generous).

The only people that are always on are still the addicts, but these are actually the minority.

Welcome to MWO.

friends list was running with about five people when I logged on a little after work, it's usually around 20-40 folks online

Well that's because you're forgetting the Steam statistics show only the Steam users. It doesn't account for all the non-steam users. Once you put that into account MWO is doing just fine.

I still technically play SWTOR as I still keep a subscription going, but it's been a good couple of months since I spent more than 30 minutes on it.

Old games lose population, unlike when online games were few and far between, there seems to be a new one out every month or so.

Total war warhammer grabbed my attention for about two weeks, what a waste of money that was

WMO I suppose is in an inverse way lucky it had so few to start with, as it has less to lose and had a limited budget to start with

Yeah my friend had me try it out on his computer and I wasn't that impressed. Total War doesn't change much these days. I generally buy a Total War every 3 games or so now since Shogun (which I didn't like. I know, sue me). I find it's generally better to wait for the standalone expansions like Napoleon or Attila since you get to avoid all the LOL SEGA DEMANDS EARLY RELEASE bugs. They've had time to expand on the engine.

I hate to say tell you it would happen eventually I started out with 300 + players day 1 in MWO with my Main founders account most I have known since MechWarrior 2 or 3 some from MechWarrio4 vengeance and MW4Mercs. I still play a few times a month to see what is going on in MWO but I play less and less on my comp team or solo play.

MWO has become quite boring even my tier1 main or my varied alt accounts tier 2-4 CW/FW has become a joke there is no real Social aspect to MWO or a new MSN gamming zone and good leagues so I just hang on and pay nothing now .

As someone on your friends list during peak hours usually, I take offense to this thread :P

The matchmaker giving me 2 wins for every 10 or so losses was my reason for quitting.

There's little point in logging on if almost every team you face has competent people and a lot of the teammates you spectate are trying to shoot targets 1000 m away with SRM's and look like they've never played this game before.

The truly sad thing here is that PGI seems to totally oblivious to this.
Or they just don't give a damn.

Its gaming. People come and go. I doubt very few of you are playing the same games you were playing 10 years ago. I know I'm not. Unreal tournament, older mechwarrior games, Diablo 2, Tribes etc, offered years of fun but eventually it was time to move on.

Also when I drop into a match, its usually mostly players I've never seen before. And I play just about everyday. Maybe you should add new friends!

How depressing is that?

About 1/3 of my contact list is on European time (probably another 1/4 to 1/3 active ForumWarriors), so usually we play in the morning when I am available. Of late? Ghost town.

During NA peak hours? I see maybe a dozen in green on a good day now?

Outside of the Big Comp Unit guys....has anyone else seen their Friendlist become a Graveyard?

I've had a hard time logging in, lately. The MM is garbage, the PSR is garbage, and the repetitive game play is garbage. FW is supposed to be the end game but it doesn't seem any different than what I'm playing in the Solo Queue.

Who are the devs these days? I had Alex on my list from the beginning but he's never on anymore.

Yeah, my friends list is a graveyard. I'm surprised that little crosses aren't popping up whenever I click on it.

Something else a lot of you guys forget is the PGI Tourney.

People are not on the normal client for one, in the PEAK times for their timezone.

I know this is hurting out unit big time and has since the Tourney started, it's such a huge time commitment for Euro/NA people.

My friendlist is full of FW Marik dudes. And two dozen of them are always on during peak times. Enough of them we form Invasion team, less than that we form Scouting teams or PQ teams.

I don't think the PGI Tourney is culling that many people in general.. especially given the # that have dropped out.

A fair portion of the teams left are more comp oriented than non-comp oriented... which "should" make the queues have less of them, but it genuinely doesn't in the grand scheme of things.

(I'm a ***** when it comes to accepting them :P And I often just let them hang around for years...)

I did the FW Mechbay Tour when people still played FW. I have a truly absurd number of names in my friends list. Time was I was the go-to guy for building 12mans on Davion TS - the joke was that as the resident forumwhore I always had people to tap to fill a 12man.

Now?

It's not uncommon to have less than 12 total people active from my list. Primetime when I've got 60 or 70 active on my list it's less than 12 willing to play FW.

Don't worry though. Some largely irrelevant tweaks to Long Tom and some deckles will fix it.

DHB is still around but i work over night so i dont see a lot of my friend except the aussie(fun to play with). We have 2 DHB now a DHBX for faction play people and the regular DHB people. We usually are both the same faction at any given time just so we can pick up people from the other group if we are doing Invasion mode. The game has problems but it the only option for battletech mechwarrior game we have right now. I have soent too much time and money on gamne and hard ware just to walk away for good maybe take a break now and again but that it star citizen not out yet battletech not out yet battlefiel 1 not out yet and star wars battlefront has even more problems than mechwarrior online.
