So I got a wolf as per some suggestions on here and have some questions

If I want the right torso that has more hard points than crit slots in it, I get negitive quirks
If I want to get the left torso with three energy hard points I get a wall of negitive quirks

If I take the two together, well.. It feels like I'm piloting a light assault mech

Should I pay no attention the the negitive quirks and just build it like I want it?
Or do you guys shy away from having the two negitive quirk side torsos?

Seems like without those two torsos (or at least one) the mech Is really light on weapons for a 75tonner

But with them it feels too lightly armored... Shrugs

Also trying to strike a balance between arm lock off and putting all my damage on target.
Keeping me in mind I haven't basiced the mech yet. Do you guys prefer locking the arms?

I usually prefer arm lock off

And jump jets.. Without having the s center left and right torso, the jump jets seem underpowered
And even having all three of these pods, I find it hard to jump up on most ledges.

So, do you guys add more jump jets than what are locked in the mech for mobility?
Or is it a novelty that you keep around to help hill climb? Would I be remiss in thinking to hell with the jjs on the timber?

Perhaps I'm just spoiled by the awesome jump jets on the nova, and the mobility that afforded me?
I miss verticality being a factor in my attack/retreat plans

I personally use the S-torso you are referring to (it has less crit slots because of the JJs) on most of my Timber builds. I don't really like the A-side torso with the 3 energy hardpoints that much.

The only build I run on Timbers anymore though is 2 ER PPCs in the STs and Gauss in the right arm.

Me and ppc don't get along. Love gauss rifle though

Ppc seems to miss even when I clearly hit.

PPCs have bad hit detection when firing 2 or more at the same time, chain firing appears to be a work around the issue. Fortunatly, PPCs fire as fast as you pull the trigger when chain firing.

If you plan on eliting them, buy the TBR-A. Its 8/8 omnipod bonus cancels out all negative quirks, and it still has 6E hardpoints. If you don't want to run it with the Left side torso, no harm no foul, at worst it is just as good as the TBR-C or D with its CT energy hardpoint. The TBR-C and D however, can't run the TBR-A left ST without the negative quirks, since they can't get the 8/8 bonus, even in an identical setup.

That kinda makes the A the only option for laser platform doesn't it.

Mediums have the best jump jets in the game. A few lights do very well with them, but no heavies or assaults.

The Timberwolf is solid. You can build a poker with that A torso, but it really isn't the best mech for the job, as you can only fire 2lpl and a medium from it at a time, you'll get out traded by lighter mechs. For a laser alpha boat I use the C with the s right torso, put 2 lpl in the torsos (highest mounts) medium in CT and 4 meds in the arms. It's hot as balls but trades very well. And if things get close you can fire the 2lpl almost non-stop.

For a brawler the 4xASRM6 build is nasty. I like to use the S torsos for limited pop tarting kind of shots. It gets you up on the upper platforms on mining where you can surprise some mediums you might run in to.

For ballistics, this 2xUAC10 3ML build is pretty nasty. It trades well and can keep up some serious dps without overheating.

If you notice, I keep at least 1 jump jet on everything, it just helps with getting stuck on nothing or climbing stairs. For 1 ton it's worth it.

Anything the Timberwolf can do, an IS mech can do just a touch better because of high mounts or quirks, but usually with less speed. But the Timby is still very solid and will always be a top tier chassis.

I run the same build~ And painted it a swirly candy theme! The inside is a disco party with the cockpit items haha, I sometimes pilot it during the community & dev streams.
Also I know Mark Nicholson runs a really fun one too with UAC/5 and 4 medium lasers. Tried his once and planned to make the same build since! I like the sound the one adamts01 linked with ballistics too.

Haha!
Groovy!

Yep I'm thinking of a triple uac backed up with some lasers

Don't know witch uac or laser, but my triple uac rifleman rips stuff up. I can only imagine it gets better with fifteen more tons to play with

After digging around, looking up fits for it, either I'm getting good at fitting my clan mechs, or the wolf owns whatever you bolt onto it. :)

I don't see myself getting board of this mech for a long time. So much variety!

PPCS have extremely bad convergence when firing 2 or more at the same time unless your target is standing still. It will screw you every time you try to group fire on a target you have to lead as your shot is converging on your ret (which will most likely be at a different range than your target)
