Maybe it's just a function of play, but EVERY time there is an event (such as the Medium Madness occuring now) that offers Free Premium Time, I run up against the same issue. I log in, jump in the appropriate mech, and start swinging away at the goals provided for said contest. Invariably, I start off very well, racking up wins, assists, KMDs, etc. It's a total mauling, and I regularly place in the top 4 on my team of match score. (For reference only, I am about 70% up tier 3).

Then I get the dreaded FREE PREMIUM TIME curse. The very next match after I get the notification that my xp/c-bill rewards are going to get oh so very much larger, I find myself on team after team of shall we say "new recruits". During this premium time, if I get on a squad that racks up 6 kills during the match, I consider it a miracle.

Is it just me? Do my early successes just draw the hateful eye of the matchmaker and I get the ol' red hot poker in the squinter because I started off winning? IS it a function of the premium time curse (this happens without fail for me)?

If it is the latter, PGI can keep the "reward", because all it brings is pain and misery. I would GLADLY cancel the premium time alotted if allowed.

there is no such thing.
the problem with premium time is that it forces you to play all day and that day the quality of players might not be optimal.
usually what you would do is log out and log back in in 5-6 hrs. but when premium time is running it's hard to do.

just ignore the premium time. or leave it deactivated and use it to do 1v1 against your friends

The problem is most probably due to observer's error and bias : Premium Time has absolutely NO effect on RNGeesus.

On the other hand, it's a function of the human brain to expect better things when there is a signal saying so ... so you might well be unconsciously expecting better matches, while in reality you're still subject to randomization and may be "bundled" with a bunch of really bad players several times in a row.

Due to the nature of the Tier System, everyone (even me, and I'm a really bad player, I have more "red down arrows" than "green up arrows" in my matches) will eventually reach higher Tiers. That doesn't mean that a Tier 4/3/2/1 player is a real god of MMOs and twitch clicking, just that they invested enough time and dedication in the game to finally get out of "scrub Tier".

FREE Premium Time is a nice bonus, but you can totally ignore it ...

On the other hand, if every time you get Premium Time you also have 24 hours of bad matches and ugly matchmaking, you, personnaly, might be cursed by The Higher Powers or your divinity of choice to be abysmally bad during Premium Time.

In these times of people dying trying to catch virtual pets and terrorists driving trucks into crowds, nothing surprises me anymore.

Maybe an offering of rice and incense burning near your computer would placate the Evil Spirits of RNGeesus when you reach the dreaded threshold of Premium Time ?

The Free Premium Time this event is lodged into 3 matches, instead of just participating in one match.

Currently this makes the usage of Premium Time less effective in your time playing the game (the Premium Time assumes you'll come back, but that's not always the case). Good luck to you if you're just not that good or just starting to play the game.

Maybe the issue is you "try harder" and self-sabotage once you receive premium time.
