What are arguably the best mechs in the game?

This is considering the meta and objective factors.

A couple that come to mind: Timberwolf, Battlemaster.

Lights: Arctic Cheeta top dog. Jenner IIC and firestarters still usable. Locust is very tonnage efficient in weight balanced matches, but not so hot in "class" based matches.

Mediums: Hunchback IIC current top dog. Especially the A. Stormcrows, Griffens, Blackjacks, not that far behind though.

Heavies: Warhammer, Marauder, Timberwolves, all reletively equial. Black knight still powerful even after the changes last patch.

Assaults: KDK-3. Not much else even comes close to it at this point. Atlas' still good in nitche situations, Dires and King Crabs still fun, but can't really compete against the KDK-3 right now. Maulers come close, but are still just "ok" right now.

Nova prime and hellbringer

Vindicator and Kit Fox.

Kit Fox because of it's sheer amount of chesthair. The testosteron monster of unparalleled savage brutality.
Can't beat them pecs.

Vindicator because of it's talent to make cool poses with it's cape flapping in the wind. Yes. It's the mech of choice for true heroes of justice.

The best Mech in game is still in development. I expect the Huntsman to be very well rounded and a blast to play. Seriously, you can do just about anything with it, from a heavy Ultra AC/20 to eight missile racks. I think it will essentially be meta and energy-draw system immune, which is saying something.

I think true no child left behind balance is closer then we think

that is all Mechs are the same they just look different on the outside

We shouldn't do this by class, but by overall usefulness, effectiveness and efficiency. For example, nobody is going to argue that an Awesome is better than an Ebon Jaguar. If you do, I have this WONDERFUL bridge to sell you. Great condition, minimal maintenance.

Another example is the Maddog. It can't hold a candle to the Hunchback.

Zero argument there. I love my 4G. Regularly get 3+ kills with it.

This is likely to be the most sensible answer you'll get, also the most accurate and fair across the board

Mediums (range) : HBK-IIC-A, ENF-4R, BJ, TBT-5J, WVR-6K, SCR, SHD-2K...
Mediums (brawl) : GRF-3M, SHD-2D2, NVA, GRF-2N, HBK-4SP, SCR, BJ...

Heavies (range) : GHR, TBR, WHM, BL-KNT, QKD, TDR, EBJ, HBR
Heavies (brawl) : TBR, ON1-VA, CPLT, MDD, SMN...

Assaults (range) : KDK-3, MAL-MX90, BNC-3M, BLR-2C, WHK, STK...
Assaults (brawl) : AS7-S, KDK-SB, KDK-5, EXE, GAR...




Best mech in the game contenders? KDK-3 and TBR. These are the two mechs I see as standing out the most in their weight classes and roles - mechs that always work regardless of what you're doing or what situation arises. There's really never really been a stand-out medium, and lights don't really have one at the moment either since the rescale practically nerfed all Jenners into oblivion.

Certainly. It has some mad quirks for LPL dps, and if it can survive until the end of the match, it has some of the best late game performance due to the MG RoF quirks with that mad crit dps. The SDR-5D on the other hand has what... ECM and a PPC? Or 3x MPL? Or LL+2ML? Rather pathetic in comparison to what most other lights can bring to the table.
